Thinning the Add on Heard

I just went through this same internal debate: drop Apple TV and Peacock

I ended up getting Disney Hulu again. Prime is for Prime not video. Everyone else in the house watches Netflix.

HBO had so much promise. But with the end of high quality movies in theaters, the value of subscribing to Home Box Office has fallen. I can only rewatch the Sopranos so much

 

I meant that we didn’t keep it for the video. And if there was no video we’d still have it.

Your title is a real wtf head-scratcher...There's an Add(?) that needs to be thinned(why?) on Heard (Colin Cowherd)?

• Correct grammar and spelling would be: Thinning the add-on herd (it's spelled herd, not heard)
• Proper contextualizing of the title would be: Thinning the streaming service add-on herd

Anyway, Jebus, bro, you have like, all the streaming services. I keep mine pretty lean as I don't watch much TV. I pay less than $30 a month for both video and music streaming.

Couch surfing:

• Regular terrestrial TV: I put an antenna in my attic years ago and connected a power-boosted signal splitter to every coax in my house. It's 'free' if you don't count the time you put into watching commercials.
• Rando shows: I have Roku TVs and their 'Live' TV is really fun to browse. I watched a Price is Right from 1982 the other day.

Big streamers:

• Netflix- wife and kids revolted when I canceled it. I brought it back ad supported because I rarely watch it.
• Disney- I get the add-supported version 'free' with Kroger Boost, which is a yearly subscription for grocery delivery. Completely worth the money for delivery alone.
• Prime- free
• Peacock- free
• YouTube Premium- 'free' Brave browser removes YouTube ads
• Apple, Hulu- I'll generally sign up for a free intro month when there's a show I want to watch, put a cancellation date on my calendar with reminders, binge the show(s) I want to see, then drop it before the subscription kicks in.

Sports: I just don't really watch many sports these days. I'm a box score and standings watcher. The NBA going to Prime was nice. Playoffs are usually on terrestrial TV or in a pinch I can find a streaming game on Reddit.

Freebies of dubious origin:

• Plex- I have a buddy who keeps a massive Plex server with something like 8,000 movies and shows.
• FMHY- you can find tons of stuff to stream here on your computing device

Music:

• Pandora- I pay for this to avoid ads. I love their music genome project, it gently guides me to discovering new genres and artists when I'm listening to a station I've created.

 

Good topic, I am about to cut the cord, and I am not sure which channels I will pick up when I slim down by cable package. I am paying $250 for cable plus Showtime which is a joke. It seems like each station has 1-2 shows that I like but there isn't one that I would watch all the time, hell I dont even have Netflix. Paramount seems good but I am swayed for my love of Yellowstone and the spin offs........Disney looks like a good bet for Star Wars and spin offs

KK, what is the one channel you would say, hell no, I won't cancel that one?

 

Between Verizon (cell) and Spectrum (internet/cable) I get everything but Apple and Netflix for "free". I subscribe to those 2 every once in a while, watch everything I want, then unsubscribe for a while.

 

Jesus, $3,000 a year for television.

 

@Space Ghost has the best recommendation: just make a spreadsheet of shows you want to watch and rotate when you hit a critical mass on one service.

Having kids makes Disney+ a requirement. I honestly don't watch anything else on that service, but my daughter does and I've bundled it with HBO Max for a while. However, I'm running out of things to watch on the latter so I'll probably downgrade to just Disney+.

Nothing on Netflix catches my eye. My wife has been traveling recently and wants it for that, but I'll likely cancel once she's home.

Apple TV has been my favorite for a bit and I share that with a friend. They've got Slow Horses, Shrinking, Widow's Bay, For All Mankind, Star City, Your Friends and Neighbors... honestly good stuff.

 

I do not watch TV on the regular. Wife and son do.

YouTube TV: this is by far the most watched. Way better than cable. Slightly better than DirecTv (which I suspect is transitioning to a streaming service).

Hulu, Disney+, ESPN+: Son watches a **** ton of sports on ESPN+. Wife watches older TV series on Hulu. Disney+ has most of Disney related movies, which I watch when I get around to it.

Netflix: We started this subscription moons ago, when the wife was doing more travel. I have watched Netflix exclusive movies over the years ... not enough to justify.

Amazon Prime: Bought it for Prime delivery. I watch the occasional Prime exclusive series like Spider Noir.

YouTube Premium: I watch hours of videos on my laptop each week. Subscription comes with YouTube Music which I also listen to hours each week. Google should offer a YouTube TV + Premium deal but does not.

If I had to chose one to set free, that would be Hulu, since you are forced to watch ads FTW and it aint cheap.
