Melton is a guy I wanted the previous offseason, but then he got hurt so I guess it was good we didn't trade for him. Plays defense, shoots the three ball, can handle the ball and pass a little bit (better than Holiday at least). I thought I heard he was planning to sign with the Warriors soon though. If we can get him for the vet min and he's willing to take a back seat to Reed to start the season, he would be a good pickup for depth.
As it stands now, you are correct - they do not have enough $$ to even offer a minimum contract. They have $1,255,588 between them and the 1A. That equates to 54.6% of a 2nd year vet min contract (what most minimums count against the cap). That's 44.6 games of actual pay meaning they'd have to play 38 games before being able to offer that prorated contract for the rest of the season. The only other option is to trade one of their minimum guys for no return salary to open up enough space - problem with that is none of them are trade eligible until at least December 15. Essentially their hands are tied between now and that December 15th date - unless they part with someone earning more than the minimum who didn't sign a new deal this offseason and I find that unlikely as it consists of Tari, Amen, Shepard .... With Melton recovering from injury - I don't know when he will be ready to play, this could actually work out ~midseason .... tho I'm certain he'd rather be on a roster for the full year to collect checks.
is it possible for the team to rework a signed player's contract? for example, if the Rockets see someone they can't pass, can they negotiate and restructuring Adams' contract to move $1million to the 3rd year, if Steven is willing to be cooperated of course. just curious, thanks
Trae Young is a serious problem defensively, to pair with a 37 year old KD, and a defensively flawed Sengun would seem like a hard cap on our ceiling to be a perennial 2nd rd or WCF exit. Not to mention what it would take to land him, I doubt Freds contract and picks get it done. They will want young pieces.
Nah. This not Stone’s style at all. He’s not giving up financial flexibility on a diminutive no defense chucker. Besides, Ime would have him fired.
How would we even be able to do that trad We would have to send out well over 45M in salary (in order to have a complete roster) FVV is 24 Adams 14 DFS 12 I guess that works, but it feels like a lot of depth going out....
Let me guess "The Rockets should look to trade Fred VanVleet's contract" which the Rockets can't do because he has a no trade clause. It's shocking how bad NBA pundits are. FVV has a no trade clause, so if the trade revolves around his salary it's a non-starter.
Sounded more like a trade idea possibility than actual GM conversations. BR Sports Greg Swartz's blurb: "Fred VanVleet suffered a torn ACL in late September, meaning the Houston Rockets could be in the market for a new starting point guard this season. Trae Young joining forces with Kevin Durant, Alperen Şengün, Amen Thompson and others would make the Rockets an incredible force, even in the West. Houston’s fifth-ranked defense should be able to absorb Young’s deficiencies on that end as well. Using VanVleet’s expiring $25 million contract to help match salaries, the Rockets could put together a deal for Young while keeping their core pieces in place.” Swartz wrote in his recent reports." So a trade for a low efficiency, high turnover, massive defensive liability..... sure they COULD.... but why would they?
---- So in the EAST, Hawks has been one of Rocket's favorite trading partner. Number 2 favrorite partner is probably Celtics. Favrorite fringe trading partner: Garison Mathews/Bernando / Justhin holiday, Kaminksy, 2nds) Garuba and Tyty to the Hawks for draft rights to Alpha Kaba and some cash Got AJ Griffin Got Capela Most of those Stone trades were with former GM Landry Fields. When Hawks replaced Fields with Onsii Saleh, I wasn't sure if the relationship would still continue. But then the Capela thing happend. Remains to be seemed if relationship will continue (including with the GM assistants over there). Tangent: in one of Onsi's inaugral presser, he's one of the GMs who likes to use 'optionality', something I might credit Stone for help popularizing in the NBA. --- Trae is still good as a playmaker. Bad defense aside, recently people have been highlighting his 3pt efficiency, which contradicts his long ball reputation. But the main conccern has been Trae's camp looking for the big bag on the next extension. There's hesistancy on the side of the Hawks. They like Trae, but they're not sure they want to pay him the amount he's seeking. As agents likes to use other team names for contract negotiations, we could be seeing more of Rocket names in future tweets.
If it's not him, then it almost HAS to be Durant or Sengun just to be able to match the salary and stay under the apron while having a full roster. Seems ridiculous (to me). The only other real option is Adams, DFS, JSJ, Shepphard plus one of Capela or Eason gives enough outgoing salary to allow Trae to come back plus 4 minimum salary guys to make the roster legal. Again, I don't see the point. That's just me though!
