Comforting to know that people still pay for this kind of paper and are not stuck behind the Paywall.

Silver lining pt 2: We could use the first half of the season to throw Amen and Reed into the fire, let them get their experiences and take their lumps, learning and getting better from it. Because of KD and Sengun we will still have a floor on how good we'll be, easily a playoff team. And then, by trade deadline time you can cash in some of that draft capital you'd saved up by getting KD for pennies, turning it around to acquire a Jrue Holiday or Derrick White to round out the playoff roster and keep us as contenders for this year. Salary would have to go out for one of those guys to come back, but even FVV could be the salary going out by the February trade deadline.

The KD extension is not yet signed. We still might need to have a decent season in order to keep him.

FVV isn't a star, but losing him for the whole season gives us a lot less wiggle room health wise. KD is bound to miss some games or be load managed due to his age. Amen missing even 15 games or so would be truly devastating with our lack of guard depth. Injuries can compound.

Exactly and he literally missed this exact glaring scenario that we ALL were worried about happening.
He almost even seemed arrogant about ignoring the questions or our concerns about a van vleet or KD injury

    If I’m KD’s agent, I’m demanding max.
If we were no longer the best contenders then you can’t play hard ball with me and I want my last max deal.

I would give them until Christmas (can’t move most players until Dec. 15th) so they can make whatever moves they need to make and after that I expect a max by new years, if it doesn’t happen, then I wouldn’t resign if I was him.

This is still business and unfairly or not, this situation just gave KD’s management the ultimate leverage.

If KD demands a max contract he can walk, as far as I'm concerned. This is not his team. I'd rather rebuild around the young guys and the Brooklyn and Phoenix picks.

From a fan’s point of view I agree with you.

but the problem is we effectively lose 2 starters for nothing now.
At this point FVV is at best an expiring contract / salary filler and KD would be nothing.

This is why I said, it gave KD’s management the ultimate leverage.
It not only screwed us on the court, but it screwed us with negotiations and GM moves too

This makes Tari a centerpiece in deals already on the table .

And, as much as people despise it, the whispers are strong in bringing Russ back as a backup. Uncle Jeff's has already requested it and KD is open to it.

I think Russ could do wonders for stability and running the offense with limited minutes. He's not my top choice and DMel is still waiting for our call, but Russ knows how to play, rebound and defend. For the vet minimum , hed work out.

Tari is going to be the financial key all year though.

As long as Russ is coming off the bench it would not be a bad thing. He is obviously a better option than Holiday.

That’s because it is bullshit. Durant is in no position to demand the max. If the Rockets perform well this year and he stays on the court, he will have much more leverage than now.

Unless they trade Tari and/or draft picks.

It's super lame that we can't go over the 1st apron to use the DPE. We're at the apron partially because of FVVs salary. Getting a DPE we can't use is pointless.

I'm actually kinda hoping he just walks after this season, or retires. How many superstars' final multi-year contracts actually end up being worth it to the team paying for them?

Whats funny is fvv was already ass. We needed an upgrade anyways and stone still sat on his balls / signed a redundant player in dfs

I was in favor of getting rid of FVV, but not because he was ass, but because of Ime’s insistence of running the offense through him. I was reconciled to hoping Ime would play him off ball. I was an advocate for getting “Reed insurance”, but Stone decided to go after Capela for some strange reason. FVV’s was a pretty good defender, as is Okogie, but FVV’s spot up 3 pt shot would have been difference maker this year. If Reed plays that role well, Stone will look like a genius.

Yeah writing is on the wall for Tari, unfortunately because I love the game though I feel he needs to step up big time. Doesn’t DMel want more money though? I would love Russ, we could use a win some, lose some type of guy.
