I am as critical of anyone about Brooks's deficiencies. Including low rebounding and league leading total fouls. But passing, handles, and rim protection was not his game from the start He's a tiny bit more able at shot creation than he seems. Every once in a while he'll dribble in for a turnaround or midrange jumper that looks clunky, but can be bailouts from shot clock expiring. Or trying to generate offense when the team is slumping. Meaning he became better at shot selection, & picking his spots. Instead being a wannabe #2 volume option like his Memphis days Brooks became of those "low turnovers" safe types who either gets a shot at the rim, or swings the ball to a teammate's hands. It is very simple where it doesn't seem a skill, not overdoing it with the ball. But it retains possessions. Besides the technicals and enforcer head games, I just didn't see so much of boneheaded plays that his reputation suggested. Lou Dort is even shorter stumpier version of Brooks, and OKC just won a title with him
Funny how life works... 1.) I hated when we signed him! 2.) NOW.............I hate to see go!!! I personally think he was a big part in the culture change that was sorely needed when he first arrived! Thank you Dillon! Wish you well!! (not against the Rockets doe...) Go Rockets!!! ....... ....... .......
He was amazing on and off the court. He added a lot more value then he was paid for. We will miss him greatly
He played hard and seemed like a really good teammate. He came to play every single night. I respect players like that. He provided everything we were hoping for when we acquired him. He had a reputation for putting up bad shots in Memphis, but that wasn’t the case here in Houston. I wish him well, and I fully expect him to be his usual intimidating self when he plays us next season.
Wasn't too sure about the signing but he did everything we asked him to do and more....taught the young guys that defense is important and to stick up for each other. Good luck to him and he will be missed on and off the court.
Dillion guarded the best offensive player every night, being a good mentor, showed up and stood up for his teammates. He had been trying to create something out of nothing, like those late game charges on the opposing teams' players. Although sometimes it looked awkward and backfires, nobody could fault him for trying. I will never get tired of seeing him thinking every awkward methods to help his team win, and sometimes it does actually work. Dillion, thank you for giving all for the Rockets and wish you good luck in Phoenix.
The more I think about it and happier I get! Cannot believe it happened and Stone convinced them to take Brooks. Such a win to get rid of him!
He's a big reason we are where we are right now. They needed that vet toughness...even a little craziness. He's the guy you hate when he's not on your team...but love when he is. Not as wrecklessly stupid as donkey boy in San Fran...but still crazy as hell. I didn't like when he thought he should be the focus of the offense and was taking 15 or more shots. I think to take the next step, he wasn't going to be able to be a major part. This needs to be Jabari and Tari stepping up as they're more skilled players all around with the defensive toughness...and with more minutes opening up for Reed and maybe Cam. That said, I very much appreciated his 2 years here. Can't wait to see what his gameday hair style looks like with PHX.
I was completely wrong about Dillon. He brought everything they said he would. Good defense, veteran experience, culture setter, value contract. I hated the signing and now it's actually pretty sad to see him go. He was great here.
Wish him the best. Was unsure of his signing early on but he was great for the Rockets. Definitely the type of player you love on your team but hate to play against.
We can stop pretending we like him & go back to “hating” him. And when he tries to pick a fight with Tari or Bari or Amen or even KD himself,…
He's seen Amen up close, he's not going to try it, he knows he can't handle that smoke lol. People gonna be a LOT more scared of Amen than they ever were of Dillon, and I actually am a huge Brooks fan now.
I'll just join the chorus to say I wish Dillon the best and will be sad to see him go - he was great in Houston at turning around the culture and bringing an edge to this team. He improved tremendously as a player and while I didn't always love the results on the court, the effort and intention was never in question and that's what matters most - he had a role and he took it seriously! Brooks has become and will remain one of my all time favorite Rockets for the grit and tenacity he brought to the game. Huge respect to him - good luck, Dillon!
Credit where credit is due: he helped change the culture around here. He deserves a lot of credit for transforming this squad into a serious basketball team. Hate to see him go. Any team would be lucky to have him and I’ll always root for him!
