I always liked Lubys, and went to the one on Waugh A LOT (once saw Mutombo eating there). But I will say, not all Luby's are good, and not all good Luby's are consistently good. It did get crappier when Pappas bought it, but I still enjoyed eating there most of the time.

Consistency is something that is generally lost on all large chain restaurants/fast food joints. In the good old days, the burger you got at one Whataburger was the same as you got at any other Whataburger. Those days are long gone though, you have to find the "good" Whataburgers now, and not stray from them.

Still remember the taste of the crusty fried fish fillet and slightly goopy Mac n cheese from lubys.

Hope there are cafeteria style diners that still exists and doesn't taste like watered down garbage

Do you find Whataburgers after being bought by that Chicago based group, are a little down from the normal quality? It's hit or miss for me too.

I haven't noticed a difference, I think the consistency problem for Whataburger (and every other large chain) was there before the sale. The two Whataburger locations that have never disappointed me are San Felipe and Voss, I-10 and Silber, and 59 at Weslayan. I've had subpar Whataburger at 610 and W.18th, Westheimer and Timmons, and Westheimer and Chimney Rock.

Stopped at the Fudds close to the Zoo today and they were actively tearing it down (I took a pic and submitted it to Google maps and they actually took the location off the map within a couple of hours).

We ended up just going to the Fudds in the Clear Lake area. They had a letter posted at the register explaining why they had to raise prices.
    1. How can they not stay in business? Seems like a license to print money.
    2. Are there actually people out there in 2024 who don’t understand that the price of everything is higher than it was even a year ago?

Aw, Luby's. My grandparents used to love eating there for the luau meal deal, until some point in the early 2000's when they said the food wasn't of the same quality.

Plenty of memories having dinner with them there, man where does the time go.

They basically outpriced their market plus the quality of food went down at the same time.

People understand, but they don't like it and at some point people get priced out. At a certain price point I would rather just go somewhere else with better quality food for a similar price point. I mean, white bread, ground beef and potatoes, that should not be too high of a price wherever you may live. If your target clientele can't afford to buy your food, or would rather go more upscale for a similar price point, then the restaurant will go out of business.

The fuddruckers near CityCentre behind Pappadeaux seems like it’s busy a lot.

I’d fight someone for a Luann platter of chicken fried steak with cream gravy, green beans, Mac &cheese, and a roll right now.

Personally, I'm glad there's a Fudd's and Luby's still around in Houston, don't care what part of it.

Fudds faced competition from 5 guys, mighty fine, and others - they ran their course...

Luby's - cafeteria venues are out of style - they will come back in a few years.

...and people have begun to hate back on 5 Guys and Mighty Fine because of the cost and quality. Sound familiar?

That's the one my folks went to after church (there was also a Le Peep)...once I hit a certain teenage age they'd ask if I wanted to go, I'd say "no",and they'd stop off at the house and drop me off.

I went to the Luby's at FM1092 and W Airport a few weeks ago and it wasn't bad.
