I really wonder what browser you use or whatever...how do you even format these posts like that? Weird.
Yeah - that is a nice theory but that is really all it is. The interesting but controversial Thomas Sowell was one of the first to have the theory you provided. The Civil Rights Acts were passed in 1964 and in acted in 1965. By 1965 the number of single black mothers was ALREADY a massive problem. The breakdown of the black family was first brought to national attention in 1965 by future Senator Dan Moynihan who was a Democrat, and noted that it was an existing problem and if not addressed would cause issues in his sociological report. So no - it wasn't caused by the Democrats and LBJ, as it was already a big problem and already was happening before the Act in 1964. The number of single parent family households in the black community started rising in the 1950's (post WWII) and was a big issue by 1960. Further - there were other things going on at the same time other than the welfare state that could have caused the decline of the black family: 1) The woman's movement opened up employment positions increasing competition, especially from white women, in many non-traditional areas which skilled blacks may have contributed to maintain their family structure in the midst of the rise of the cost of living 2) The advancement of technology lessening the need for manual labor to more technical know-how labor 3) Fewer labor force opportunities and a decline in real earnings for black males since 1960 are also recognized as sources of increasing marital instability. 4) post slavery black women had a higher employment rate than white women and that has impacted how black women view the family structure. Couple that with a smaller wage difference between black men and black women - and that can work to destabilize the idea of the nuclear family. 5) Higher incarceration rates for black men also have led to more broken families. My point isn't to claim that the 1964 Civil Rights Acts were perfect, of that there are no consequences to Welfare. My point is that there is a lot of indoctrination, which is what is at play here. The theory by Sowell is just that - a theory - and one that overly simplistic and not really accurately aligned with the increase of single parents in the black community. It also ignores many other factors that likely come into play. The reasons are likely multi factorial - and not simply the result of the Welfare state.
I really don't waste my time with Trumpers, this coming from a guy who voted Republican as recently as 2012. He has done and said so many things that would destroy any normal politician. They deal in their own brand of facts and reality. Trump a terrible human being who doesn't respect democracy, veterans, or anybody who has had to work in life. An obnoxious nepo baby yankee, who lives with a comical spray tan and is a serial adulterer. He's a walking embodiment of everything I was raised to hate here in Texas. Started life on 3rd base and tells the world about the amazing triple he hit....and they buy it. But somehow, they've managed to convince themselves that he's fighting for them....you can't win an argument with that much delusion.
I too can make up numbers. But warts and biases and hidden voters and all, FiveThirtyEight is probably the most 'accurate' of the popular opinion. However, as @Nook pointed out recently, this is an Electoral election, not a Popular election.
Whelp, you've dun gon off the deep end bro, you're just propagating propaganda at this point. @here someone let me know when @basso gets his head out of the Trump/Fox News arsehole so I can take him off my ignore list.
If I understand it correctly, the one I quoted is basically the equivalent of Vegas betting on sports...so, where people are putting their money, based on who they believe will win.
Thanks for your rational response. I believe fewer incentives to split families would compel people to make better decisions before they start a family and after the family is made. There's room for nuance in certain relationships that become irreparable, but it seems reasonable to believe people's behavior in most situations would be more cordial with fewer rewards to split the union.
There is as much evidence to Barron torturing animals as there is to Haitians in Springfield (specifically, not Haiti because we know it's widespread there) eating cats...
