That would be hard not to say yes to as much as I love France. Soto would be a significant upgrade in the outfield assuming Alvarez is our full time DH. Snell and Hader are top 2 pitching rentals available. We would be favorites this year. I think Crane would give Snell enough money to stay as long as the contract isn't too long.
He still would be our worst bat if we replaced Maldy with Diaz. My point is our lineup would be fine if Baker wasn't Baker. New bats doesn't change Baker.
You never do that trade unless you plan to tear it all up and start from the bottom in two years. 3 major leaguers and your future for 2 rentals and a guy that'll leave after next year?
The Dodgers getting Eduardo Rodriguez is probably the best possible thing to happen to the Astros on the Verlander front. The Tigers are crazy to not wait until the last 30 minutes to make a deal.... because Houston and LA both want Rodriguez and Verlander.
Don't know about crushing it. OPS of .770 his last 6 games with a BABIP of .421 which is obviously not sustainable.
We might have to anyway. Altuve isn't getting any younger, Bregman isn't getting any better, Tucker ain't staying, and we will have a hard time keeping Framber.
I'm pretty sure I'm a bigger Meyers fan than you. Meyers has produced 3.1 fWAR with just under 600 PAs in his career despite having a shoulder injury that on average robs about 20 points of wRC+ within two years after the injury. He may not have the upside of a lot of the Top 100 prospects, but he is not chopped liver either. There is a decent chance Meyers is a 110 wRC+ hitter next season (or better) while playing stellar defense. I really want to see what Meyers is next year. I'm a bigger Chas fan than a Meyers fan. I see Marisnick as a realistic floor situtation and Chas (4.3 fWAR/600 PAs for his young career and not the current flaming hot streak) as a realistic ceiling.
The Astros must get a SP Other than JV, E. Rodriguez, Lorenzo, and Flaherty who is left? I would like another RP too, but with another SP then overall the team has enough arms. I still think that the Julks/Meyers spot vs RHP is a weak link. It's not as bad if Diaz is in the lineup and they on the bench, but that means Yordan is in LF and Maldy is catching. A run producing bat that hits RHP well is #2 priority for me.
Pena will not be traded. You don’t trade one of the best defensive shortstops in the league that has the potential to be a plus bat and perennial all-star in his second year for rentals.
I've never understood this. The Mets should *want* to trade him within the division if they get the best prospects, if the Mets are trying to compete 2-3 years down the line. Not only do they get the prospect they want, they also take a prospect away from their division rival when they are ready to compete, at which point Verlander would be gone anyway.
After 2019... if you said in 4 years we'd have lost Springer, Correa, JV, Cole, Greinke, Yuli and with Brantley injured for about 2 seasons you'd think our run was done. We kept Altuve, Bregman and Alvarez and retooled to still be relevant. In 3 years we may be able to retool again, but only if we don't strip the farm system now and allow them to come in when we need them one at a time.
