Justin Fields is the exception to the Ohio St. rule. He made a garbage team exciting to watch. The Texans have a good team with crappy QB play. A good QB (J. Fields) with a good team makes noise in the league.

Justin Fields led his team to the worst record in the NFL last year. And he is a turnover machine who struggles to read defenses. Chicago is considering giving up on him already. Hard pass.

Did you miss the garbage team part? If the line cant protect you most of the time then all of your flaws will show. Every QB in the league expects to have some type of protection. Chicago had none in his 2 seasons. You all are being blinded by the hype. Fields is a two year veteran in the same league that Bryces size is being questioned. They can only hype him up so much though.

Why would we want a QB that the worst team in the league gave up on after only 2 years? If they saw potential, they'd be building around him. Instead they may be dumping him in favor of an unknown rookie. Speaks volumes.

    https://theathletic.com/4237135/2023/02/23/nfl-mock-draft-team-by-team/

    1. Indianapolis Colts: Bryce Young, QB, Alabama
Colts-Bears trade details: Colts receive the 2023 No. 1 pick; Bears receive 2023 No. 4 pick, 2023 No. 36 (second round), a 2023 fifth-round pick (via Buffalo) and Indianapolis’ 2024 first-round pick.

    2. Houston Texans: C.J. Stroud, QB, Ohio State

The Texans tried to move up to No. 1, even offering both of this year’s first-round picks (No. 2 and 12) plus next year’s third-rounder, but the Colts would not be outbid. C.J. Stroud gives the Texans a quarterback with good arm strength and athleticism, although he’s not really much of a running threat. He reminds some of Joe Burrow in terms of athleticism. But he’s a high-level talent that should serve as a cornerstone for the Texans and DeMeco Ryans, if they can surround him with the right supporting cast and developmental plan. — Mike Jones

    3. Arizona Cardinals: Will Anderson, edge, Alabama
    4. Atlanta Falcons: Jalen Carter, DT, Georgia
Falcons-Bears trade details: Falcons receive the No. 4 pick; Bears receive the No. 8 pick, 2023 No. 45 (second round) and a 2024 second-round pick.

    5. Las Vegas Raiders: Anthony Richardson, QB, Florida
Raiders-Seahawks trade details: Raiders receive the No. 5 pick; Seahawks receive the 2023 No. 7, 71 (third round) and a fifth-round pick.

    6. Carolina Panthers: Will Levis, QB, Kentucky
Panthers-Lions trade details: Panthers receive No. 6 pick; Lions receive No. 9 and 2023 No. 94 overall.

    7. Seattle Seahawks: Tyree Wilson, edge, Texas Tech
    8. Chicago Bears: Peter Skoronski, OT/G, Northwestern
    9. Detroit Lions: Devon Witherspoon, CB, Illinois
    10. Philadelphia Eagles: Myles Murphy, edge, Clemson
    11. Tennessee Titans: Paris Johnson, OT, Ohio State
    12. Houston Texans: Quentin Johnston, WR, TCU

Although pairing Stroud with former Ohio State teammate Jaxon Smith-Njigba is an attractive option and similar to moves by the Bengals (Joe Burrow-Ja’Marr Chase), Eagles (Jalen Hurts-DeVonta Smith) and Dolphins (Tua Tagovailoa–Jaylen Waddle), the Texans stick with their draft board and go with the top-rated wideout Quentin Johnston out of TCU. The 6-4, 215-pounder will give Stroud a big-play target with great athleticism and a wide catch radius. — Jones

    13. Green Bay Packers: Brian Branch, S, Alabama
Packers-Jets trade details: Packers receive No. 13 pick, a 2024 second-round pick that becomes a first if Aaron Rodgers plays in 2024 and wide receiver Elijah Moore; Jets receive Rodgers.

    14. New England Patriots: Joey Porter Jr., CB, Penn State
    15. Green Bay Packers: Lukas Van Ness, edge, Iowa
    16. Washington Commanders: Broderick Jones, OT, Georgia
    17. Pittsburgh Steelers: Christian Gonzalez, CB, Oregon
    18. Detroit Lions: Bijan Robinson, RB, Texas
    19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Drew Sanders, LB, Arkansas
    20. Jacksonville Jaguars (via Seahawks): Michael Mayer, TE, Notre Dame
Jaguars-Seahawks trade details: Jaguars receive No. 20; Seahawks get No. 25 and a fourth-round pick.

    21. Miami Dolphins: Forfeited pick
    22. Los Angeles Chargers: Jordan Addison, WR, USC
    23. Baltimore Ravens: Jaxon Smith-Njigba, WR, Ohio State
    24. Minnesota Vikings: Bryan Bresee, DT, Clemson
    25. Seattle Seahawks: O’Cyrus Torrence, G, Florida
    26. New York Giants: Jalin Hyatt, WR, Tennessee
    27. Dallas Cowboys: Kelee Ringo, CB, Georgia
    28. Buffalo Bills: Zay Flowers, WR, Boston College
    29. Cincinnati Bengals: Deonte Banks, CB, Maryland
    30. New Orleans Saints: B.J. Ojulari, LSU
    31. Philadelphia Eagles: Emmanuel Forbes, CB, Mississippi State
    32. Kansas City Chiefs: Darnell Wright, OT, Tennessee

    Beyond Round 1
    37. (Round 2) Los Angeles Rams: Luke Musgrave, TE, Oregon State
    43. (Round 2) Cleveland Browns: Felix Anudike-Uzomah, DE, Kansas State
    52. (Round 2) Miami Dolphins: Cam Smith, CB, South Carolina
    68. (Round 3) Denver Broncos: Matthew Bergeron, OL, Syracuse
    100. (Round 3) San Francisco 49ers: Adetomiwa Adebawore, DT, Northwestern

Thanks for sharing @J.R. But in what world does 1-4, 2-36, 2024 1st beat 1-2, 1-12, 2024 3rd especially when you could turn around and flip 1-2??
Edit: I hope Caesar salad is not dumb enough to trade up to 1-1. Just a bad waste of resources IMHO

I've seen like five mock drafts recently with the Colts jumping us for Bryce Young

Feels like the Colts will offer extra pick(s) to jump us. They don’t have as many holes as us. With the current rosters, Colts are better assembled and they dealt with a lot of injuries. A QB would take them a lot further than us next year.

If Colts jump us, do not under any circumstances settle for Stroud. Let some other fools trade up for him, trade down and draft defense.

Me personally, I take Young then Stroud depending on who is there at 2.

Then trade back from 12 if they can a few spots.

Take Bijan Robinson in the teens to pair with Pierce.

Then move up from top of second to bottom first with pick from moving back and take either Meyer or Kincaid at TE.

I'm not a fan of the WR crop this year projected in the first.

Then I go defense the rest... possibly center if we can't sign the one from the Jets.

Bijan is luxury pick but we saw what happens when Pierce misses time.

Texans are not in a stage where they can have luxury picks.

    2. Bryce Young, QB, Alabama
    16. Paris Johnson Jr., OT, Ohio State*
    34. Darnell Washington, TE, Georgia
    66. Jayden Reed, WR, Michigan State
    74. Daiyan Henley, LB, Washington State
    98. Tyjae Spears, RB, Tulane*

    https://theathletic.com/4246648/2023/02/28/nfl-mock-draft-2023-anthony-richardson/

(Asterisk indicates a projected trade in this mock; picks in italics are projected compensatory picks.)

    1. Chicago Bears: Jalen Carter, DT, Georgia
    2. Houston Texans: Bryce Young, QB, Alabama

Young is the most game-ready passer in this draft, which puts him ahead of Stroud on my board — but not by a ton, as Stroud may well be the better long-term prospect. The more you watch Young’s film, though, the more you’ll see him solve problems that didn’t appear to have an answer a half-second earlier.

The Athletic draft expert Dane Brugler called him Steph Curry with a football, and I love that. Young figures it out in spite of his size and frame. Will he be elite for 10 years? Not sure. But in this class, he’s an elite prospect right now.

    3. Arizona Cardinals: Will Anderson Jr., Edge, Alabama
    4. Indianapolis Colts: C.J. Stroud, QB, Ohio State
    5. Seattle Seahawks (via Denver): Tyree Wilson, Edge, Texas Tech
    6. Carolina Panthers (via Detroit/L.A. Rams): Will Levis, QB, Kentucky* | Projected trade: Nos. 9 and 94 to Detroit for No. 6
    7. Las Vegas Raiders: Christian Gonzalez, CB, Oregon
    8. Atlanta Falcons: Myles Murphy, Edge, Clemson
    9. Detroit Lions (via Carolina): Devon Witherspoon, CB, Illinois*
    10. Philadelphia Eagles (via New Orleans): Joey Porter Jr., CB, Penn State
    11. Tennessee Titans: Peter Skoronski, OL, Northwestern
    12. Washington Commanders (via Houston/Cleveland): Anthony Richardson, QB, Florida* | Projected trade: Nos. 16 and 98 to Houston for 12
    13. New York Jets: Broderick Jones, OT, Georgia
    14. New England Patriots: Jordan Addison, WR, USC
    15. Green Bay Packers: Brian Branch, S, Alabama
    16. Houston Texans (via Washington): Paris Johnson Jr., OT, Ohio State*

Johnson has more of a true tackle’s body type but, like Skoronski, could bring versatility to an NFL team. The fact he was able to play guard in the Big Ten, at his size, says a lot about his movement skills. It could be a big week for Johnson at the combine.

    17. Pittsburgh Steelers: Lukas Van Ness, Edge, Iowa
    18. Detroit Lions: Bijan Robinson, RB, Texas
    19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Kelee Ringo, CB, Georgia
    20. Seattle Seahawks: Bryan Bresee, DL, Clemson
    21. Miami Dolphins: Pick forfeited
    22. Los Angeles Chargers: Quentin Johnston, WR, TCU
    23. Baltimore Ravens: Jalin Hyatt, WR, Tennessee
    24. Minnesota Vikings: Deonte Banks, CB, Maryland
    25. Jacksonville Jaguars: Michael Mayer, TE, Notre Dame
    26. New York Giants: Drew Sanders, LB, Arkansas
    27. Dallas Cowboys: Jaxon Smith-Njigba, WR, Ohio State
    28. Buffalo Bills: O’Cyrus Torrence, G, Bills
    29. Cincinnati Bengals: Dalton Kincaid, TE, Utah
    30. New Orleans Saints (via San Francisco): Mazi Smith, DT, Michigan
    31. Philadelphia Eagles: Nolan Smith, Edge, Georgia
    32. Kansas City Chiefs: BJ Ojulari, Edge, LSU

    Second Round
    33. Pittsburgh (via Chicago): Emmanuel Forbes, CB, Mississippi State
    34. Houston: Darnell Washington, TE, Georgia
    35. Arizona: Anton Harrison, OT, Oklahoma
    36. Indianapolis: Josh Downs, WR, North Carolina
    37. L.A. Rams: Will McDonald IV, Edge, Iowa State
    38. Seattle (via Denver): Cody Mauch, OL, North Dakota State
    39. Las Vegas: Calijah Kancey, DT, Pitt
    40. Carolina: Trenton Simpson, LB, Clemson
    41. New Orleans: Cam Smith, CB, South Carolina

    43. Cleveland: Keion White, DL, Georgia Tech
    44. N.Y. Jets: Antonio Johnson, S, Texas A&M

Sure they are. Best player available.

There is a need at rb. Pierce hasn't lasted a full season at any level. I like the guy but we are screwed if he goes down.

Don't disagree with BPA typically especially given Bijan's receiving abilities but this is rare instance where I don't think it makes much sense for the Texans. I just don't see how these two are complimentary backs - Bijan is the total package and should be an every-down workhorse which basically makes Pierce expendable. Does Pierce become a short-yardage specialist in this situation? That is an area where Bijan also already excels.

Pierce is one of few draft picks you hit hard on last few years and RB is a position with a short shelf-life. Think it would make more sense to pair Pierce with a later round pick with a very different skill-set like an Achane.

I would add a pass catching back in 4th or later but the value of having 2 dominant backs to keep each fresh is far more appealing.

I think your point has merit if Pierce proved he can handle a full season. He may yet, but he's also a physical back.

I start Bijan and at the half flip their roles. Use Pierce with fresh legs on a tired defense to close out games. Also gives the defense a wrinkle to account for.

The alternative is what? A smallish slot receiver from usc or big tcu receiver with route tree issues? A notre dame tight end?

If Julio Jones or Justin Jefferson was sitting there give me them all day.

I just like adding a weapon for a rookie qb. A team that can run the ball can survive mediocre qb play, see the titans...

Is Bijan worth the 12 pick. Where do you see him drafted. I know many are skeptical of RBs that high up. But he has a lot of buzz right now

Fair points and I do tend to agree that at #12 no other playmaker stands out as an obvious candidate which wouldn't be a reach. I kind of like idea of trading back to 18ish. This is a stacked TE class and you could potentially get a top-3 TE prospect and top-5 WR prospect where I don't see a ton of separation for either.

I don't dislike the idea of a Pierce-Bijan backfield but just not sure it's best use of resources or how long it lasts given short RB shelf-lives.
