Yes and yes. The attempts here weren't to use the legal system. In fact, his attempts to sub in alternate electors had nothing at all to do with the court system. They were literally to commit fraud and/or exert improper political influence. He attempted to use political influence on legislators in other states to baselessly argue fraud and overturning their own state elections, convincing many state reps in both PA and AZ. If he gotten enough, it would have been a Constitutional crisis - and one that did not involve the courts. He's also literally being investigated for calling the Georgia SoS to try to threaten him into "finding" votes. Also, frivolously using the legal system for nonsense lawsuits is illegal, which is why many of his attorneys are now being disbarred for it. Not to mention, of course, trying to get his supporters to invade the Capitol and rooting them on while legislators and his own VP were in danger. You're repeatedly said that all of these things were no big deal or danger to our system. Apparently, people being triggered by it IS the bigger deal. Depends if you have any other arguments like "attempting to do illegal things isn't illegal if it fails".
You do realize that poverty is what causes most criminal related events. I was just checking if the hair die was clogging up common sense.
Yeah, I found it disappointing but a great litmus test / reality check for our exact political times. A rep can't even have their own opinion about an issue this big.
You do realize that owning a gun causes more deaths of women and children right? Just wondering if you were one of those wearing a Trump Won shirt and carrying a Confederate flag with your gun stance and mockery of anyone speaking out about the need to make far stricter gun laws. It's not just looters and robbers killing others with guns. It's husbands, partners, fathers, and careless parents who have no business owning guns with kids in a home. Facts don't lie no matter how you try and twist them. Five years ago, just under 4,000 children and teens up to the age of 17 were killed or injured by gun violence, according to the Gun Violence Archive. By the end of last year, that number was up 43% to 5,692. Some 1,560 of these children and teenagers died. So far in 2022, at least 653 children and teens in the U.S. have been killed by guns. Another 1,609 children and teens have been injured by firearms, according to the archive. https://www.npr.org/2022/05/28/1101307932/texas-shooting-uvalde-gun-violence-children-teenagers The risk of homicide is three times higher when there are guns in the home. Not only that, but 58% of shooting deaths in children and teens are homicides. https://www.healthychildren.org/English/safety-prevention/at-home/Pages/Handguns-in-the-Home.aspx Women in the US are 28 times more likely to be killed with a gun than women in other high-income countries. Every month, an average of 70 women in the US are shot and killed by an intimate partner, and many more are shot and wounded. Nearly one million women alive today have been shot or shot at by an intimate partner. Approximately 3.7 million American women alive today have been threatened with a gun by an intimate partner. Access to a gun in a domestic violence situation makes it five times more likely that a woman will be killed. https://everytownresearch.org/report/gun-violence-in-america/
I own guns. I do not believe my owning any of those guns has caused "more deaths of women and children" . . . .
The odds are still against the Democrats but the last month several issues have moved in their favor. If inflation does come down, or at least stabilize, I think they might have a much better possibility of holding Congress. One thing I am certain is that as in the last few elections we are likely to see Democrats get more overall votes than Republicans even if Republicans win Congress because of how gerrymandered things are.
High California Gas Prices Rattle Democrats Ahead of Midterms “I don’t hear anything about the other national issues we’re focusing on in Washington,” a congressman said. A driver put it succinctly: “I’m really unhappy.” https://www.nytimes.com/2022/06/06/us/politics/gas-prices-california-politics-democrats.html excerpt: Yet in California, home to the highest average price for regular gasoline in the nation — $6.326 on Sunday, according to the motor club AAA, compared with the nation’s average of $4.848 — anger over the cost of living is threatening Democrats’ ambitions. (California gas prices are typically the highest in the nation, owing in part to state taxes and regulations on emissions that require a more expensive blend of gasoline, but recent numbers have been eye-popping.) On the cusp of Tuesday’s primary elections that will determine California’s general election matchups, there are signs that the cost of living is overshadowing virtually every other issue in some of the state’s battleground areas, according to elected officials, party strategists and polling. “They’re beyond furious — it’s called desperation,” said Representative Lou Correa, a Democrat from Santa Ana, whose district is considered safely Democratic but neighbors more competitive Orange County seats. “I don’t hear anything about the other national issues we’re focusing on in Washington. The thing I hear about is gasoline. What are you going to do to bring down the gas prices?” more at the link
Did someone really ask if attempted murder is illegal? There are some really stupid people in this country, my God.
