The fact he got Wall for Westbrook and everybody thought we got fleeced lets me know he knows basketball
[...] But rest assured, Stone is hardly going to sit around with the team as is. Basically, in today’s NBA, if you aren’t trading, you aren’t trying. “I’m a transactional guy,” Stone said. “That’s my background. “We should always be looking for the next major deal. You don’t want to leave opportunity on the table. The nature of this business is tough. Being good enough is not good enough. That is something that I think people in other jobs have a hard time relating to.” [...] He is a basketball junkie, not a basketball nerd. His appreciation for analytics is balanced by a willingness, a joy even, to put in time watching workouts and practices, much like a scout. “If you watch a guy shoot a thousand shots, you have a much better sense of can he shoot than if you watch him take five shots in a game,” Stone said. “Let me see you play full-court, one-on-one. Let me see you take a thousand stationary jumpers. “I can figure out (how good a player is) if I can see those two things.” [...] “He’s everything that we knew he would be,” Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta said. “There was never even a thought process of whether we wanted to hire someone else. We knew that we wouldn’t miss a beat with him and Eli (Witus, executive vice president of basketball operations). “One thing I can promise you: We will not sit on our hands.” Stone gets animated when talking about the team goals. “I’m trying to win a championship. ... I want a ring, man,” Stone said. “I get me a ring, you’re gonna have a hard time finding me for a couple months.”
Prob the only person on this board who thinks Stone has done a terrible job is @HP3 . According to him everyone else is just gaslighting Stone, he has actually done a crappy job lol.
We do not know how carte blanche he has to maneuver right now and make deals but that being said, what Rafa has done so far has been solid. Nothing sexy but solid. Be interesting come trade deadline end of March! No reason to be concerned with Stone right now.
8.75 <-- I only deducted slightly because we kept Harden longer to our detriment. We made it seem like we can get uncomfortable, but really reversed course on that for the better. Stone is opinionated to a really good extent, but open-minded enough to change his direction quickly. He gambles a lot more, and in this market right now, it's not a bad thing to take chances for a lower entry fee.
Ruffles talks the good talk .. will be curious to see how much leeway he really has from Jackie Moon. I give him a solid head nod in what he's done so far.
Harden deal was ass and I will continue to say it. I havent said he's done a crappy, merely an average one. And its been a half a season and people are already crowning him, miss me with this bull crap. Stop mentioning me with your dumb crap.
Bull crap? Bro you literally said Stone did a horrible job and I'm just gaslighting you lol. Wheres the bull in that? You just dont wanna admit what you wrote lmao.
I wasn’t a fan at first either but I like what he’s done so far and can appreciate some of the things he says he believes in. The gem of all of this maybe STONE NOT WOOD!
