And at that point, you've made your lineup worse by not having one of your better hitters, who's now awake, get more AB's. The entire lineup is struggling to get more than 3 hits/game in these road games... they've faced both great pitching along with not getting much from the role players who were previously hitting as well (Reddick, Marwin).
He could still do damage in the 7 or 8th spot if that were to happen. My main point is, until he changes his plate approach, its not likely to happen.
And your entire analysis screams of the “if it’s not working, it’s a bad move... if a player has a good game, it’s a smart move” type simplistic/anecdotal analysis. Using your exact logic of the 7th spot magically fixing him... he could still do damage in the leadoff spot. As soon as tonight. The entire lineup has been bad in each/every road game. They’re one Yuli hit away from scoring 1 run or less vs 6 consecutive starting pitchers on the road.
Kudos for trying to make my thinking look like a bowl of spaghetti, but that doesnt make it so. I want to move Springer down in order to strengthen the top of the lineup. Putting the guys who can hit together has obvious advantages. Simple or no, that is what makes sense to me. Sometimes simplicity is the right answer.
so imagine that he hits 7th and goes 4-4, but because he was moved down he missed opportunities to score runs because of who he was hitting in front of. If you are willing to admit that he could wake up at any point, why rob him of the opportunity to do the most damage when bunched up with the better hitters in our lineup?
Maybe he just has bad nerves right now being first but like I said, all it takes is one good hit from him and he'll turn around like in the Boston series.
Its all about what appears probable. I think its more probable he continues to hack and SO. Your scenario could happen, sure. I just think its less probable.
Based on his season prior to this point, it has to be more probable that he is more productive at the plate. He has been one of our most prolific producers all year.
He was 7/19 in the ALDS with 3 XBH and 2 walks. That was 15 days ago. Stop acting like Springer has been a broken down mule for the past three months.
no, he has had games throughout the year where he has flailed at some pitches, and he has consistently turned it around. Why act like anything different is going to happen now?
Dont tell me what my act is. Look at his plate approach. Does it look like it will succeed? It doesn't matter what he did 3 months ago or even 3 weeks ago. Right now is all that matters. And right now, he is lost. We dont have the luxury to wait days and weeks for him to figure it out.
If Springer looks the same at the plate to you now as he did when he was beasting, than you and I shouldn't have any further discussion on the matter.
How did you get that out of what I said? If memory serves me correctly, the last time you called for springer to be moved down, he literally started raking in the next game, and didn't stop. So I ask again, why is it different now? why are you so certain this is the time he won't rebound?
It's gotten to the point where the title of the thread should actually read: "George Springer--Should he even play offense?"
