What I like about him is that he's hungry. Some guys are hungry by dint of the impoverished circumstances they grew up in--sometimes being literally hungry. This guy is hungry for being repeatedly being passed over for being too small, not athletic enough, and basically too Asian. Rather than putting his head down, he just works his ass off to get better. And every year he gets better--improving his strength, quickness, reading the game, his shot, etc. I'm really excited to see how the work he's putting in during the summer will add to his game. Like turnovers, finishing left, consistency in his shot, and on-ball defense. And I'm glad people keep saying he's just a backup--it'll keep him hungry.
From 2/4 - 3/24 2012, he played games, and from the record his opps scored in an avg 3.77 more points than their season avg. I think someone should be able to come up with a 5-minute YouTube clip with Lin's defensive plays from last season...... In the Milwaukee game, if you scan late in the first half, you'll see that Lin forced another Brandon Jennings air ball as well. The game in Chicago, Lin blocked Derrick Rose twice and had three blocked shots total. (To give you an idea, Steve Nash never had three blocked shots in a game in his entire career.) Not to mention stuffing a John Wall clear out play in Washington near the end of the first half........... (These plays are often stopped by the bigs helping out, but not the primary defender.) And the critical blocked 3-pt. shot of Jodie Meeks in Philadelphia in the midst of his 16-point 4th quarter..... These are plays you don't normally see from a point guard. But yes, Lin definitely has room to improve. This is what's scary about him.
some games with the wrong dates, my bad, but doesn't matter as long as the links are working. BTW, one thing really impresses me is that Lin has very good vision defensively. He anticipated the opponent's games and esp good at help defence. That probably explains his steal number.
That video was pretty terrible edited. This is the best one I've seen so far. <iframe width="853" height="480" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/7z1m7beMXY4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
You're cherry-picking certain players' points in a game, not the players he was actually defending throughout these games. If you really want a stat, players who took shots with Lin as the primary defender scored only 0.71 points per possession...... (Source: ESPN True Hoop.) This is just outside the top ten percent of all players in the NBA, not just point guards. More interesting stats in the link below. http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/36575/knicks-finding-success-with-lin-on-point
Man, Cheuk-Fil-Lau, is trolling hard. Dude, what is your beef with Lin? You remind me of the Melo-lovers on RealGM pretending Linsanity never happened or really wasn't all that special.
I saw that after posting........ This board does not allow editing unfortunately. Lin's defensive PPP for the entire season was actually 0.82...... Still puts him in the top third in the league for all players. http://espn.go.com/blog/statsinfo/category/_/name/new-york-knicks
no i don't think i'm beefing him, I said he would be an avg to solid starting pg which means i rank him around 18 or even above in pg position in the league. well if you consider it beefing.
The questions I have, is how long do you think JLin was playing with a torn meniscus? From watching his games, I saw no dramatic falls with the exception of Kidd take down. Of course Lin was hitting the floor on every other drive.
Actually, I took sometime look for ppp stats, yet only the stats of the best players are avaliable. PG Chris Paul: oppp 0.42 Derrick Rose: oppp 0.64 SG Kobe Bryan: oppp 0.78 SF Lebron James: oppp 0.76 It seems to me that it is positional dependent...
