This completely reasonable, logical post is just wrong on so many levels. The NL adopting the DH thing: reasonable prediction, but... eww. Houstonians giving a damn about the Angels and Mariners?? Give me the NL West back. And **** the DH. And, **** Bud Selig.
This may just be me, but the internet discussions has seemed to gear discussion towards playoffs. Playoff chases are fun, but it is a long season. It seems the luster of just watching a game is gone. I've been totally for the complete overhaul the Astros have been doing because I think the games in the future will be more enjoyable. I long for the day when the Astros best pitcher versus another teams best pitcher in late May/early June is an exciting experience. Our best guy versus their best guy, all that matters is what happens on the field. Not needing another team to lose for the Astros to mo0ve up in the standings. Keuchel last year was fun to watch. No playoffs needed. Edit: When my brother and I would go to games, we would talk about the other games we saw against that team. It takes something like Keuchel pitching, playoffs to add something to the game now as we just don't have decades of watching the Astros and the A's. I wonder when the next time I'll get to hear my older brother rave about Mike Scott versus the Dodgers.
yes, those riveting, epic battles for that fourth pseudo-one-game-wild-card-spot-thingy against the hated Seattle Mariners. WTF? Selig took a dump on MLB for twenty years. Good. Freaking. Riddance.
The game is indeed the attraction to me and it is what I preach to people that don't follow the game. I remember getting the paper every morning to scour the box scores, the standings and the stats. To me the daily grind is the attraction with the opportunity to see or listen to a game every day. Winning makes it better.
I'm with you. It's the backdrop to the summer played out on a daily basis. A winning season makes for a more interesting summer. I've made my peace with the AL thing because I've had to..I just like the Astros way too much to let them go because of what league they play in.
I'm just glad I will be able to watch my home town team on TV again. I was only able to read about them for the last 2 years.
Count me in the same boat. As for predictions, I really think 85 wins is attainable if Keuchel and McHugh can continue their forward progress.
80 wins, with some meaningful games in August/September. Then next year, we win the whole dang thing.
74-88 Baby steps, even though 3B/1B/LF/Pen production should improve us. I just can't get past the defensive issues of having Lowrie at SS and Carter/Gattis in LF. I like so many pieces, but they belong to different puzzles.
82-80 final record. McHugh will prove last season wasn't a fluke but Keuchel will regress. Carter, Springer & Gattis will combine for 105 HR. Appel will be called up in May and post a sub 4.00 ERA over ~20 GS. Altuve will score 100+ runs and hit over .320. Rasmus will have a bounce-back season, posting over an .800 OPS.
Last year we went 70-92. I think the Astros will finish the season 79-83. Improved bullpen will account for +10 wins Our starter's second half numbers will decline and cost us -6 wins. Full year of Springer +5 wins Not having to watch Krauss or Guzman anymore, priceless.
Word on the street is that *****wad Bud has season tickets to the Brewers like forever. Must suck to be him.
