But this is *precisely* the argument that was being made about Bush 2-3 weeks ago (all season, really). Bush was a "once in a generation player." If one game--one freaking game--changes the mindset of mediots, commentators, and fans alike towards Young as the "how many players like him come around?" guy, then are either one of them truly that special? And if they are, do we have a lot to complain about with either pick? I'm happy with either one, as long as they do something about that Kleenex(TM) O-line.
We need to quit comparing this to the Rashard Lewis situation. There's a much better chance that VY & RB=AO & MJ rather than the scrubs we chose over Lewis.
Exactly- very perceptive Casserly is a master politician and a knowledgable football exec. but a terrible evaluator of talent. Just give him a promotion and find someone else to draft players. And yes I am thankful he drafted Dominique Davis.
Hmmmm, where do I send my resume? I will be like Mack Brown...draft VY, and bask in the glory he brings the team. DD
the problem here is that no team is going to trade you a good lineman for carr with his question marks and $8million price tag. AT BEST, you're looking at a 3rd round draft pick. so the question becomes, is the net output of carr+bush more in the long haul than vince+whatever garbage casserly drafts with the 3rd rounder we get for carr. i've completely thrown trading down out of the equation. it's the smartest thing to do, but mcnair didn't become a billionaire by mistake. he knows how to run a business, and will not pass on the marketability of these two young gentleman. the thing that points me a little more towards vince is that dynamic tail backs can be found later on and are not really necessary to win a championship. vince young is the closest thing to that "basketball superstar" - a guy who touches the ball on every play, thus maximizing his output. i'm leaning towards vince.
Why in the world would anyone give us a good Olineman for Carr? They'd be trading away the very personel they would need to make Carr be successful. It makes no sense.
trust me..there will be. it's still building. it will continue to build. if vince declares for the draft...and sits there while the texans take someone ahead of him...the fans will be pissed. particularly UT fans, who make up a pretty significant portion of this city.
UT fans make up less than half of the fan base. But they will be the first to cry if no make that when Houston picks Bush.
If we were taking some guy most people haven't heard of, like D'Brickashaw or trading down, then yes I could see the outrage. But we will most likely be taking the Heisman winner, the consensus #1 pick, the most electric dude on the field (usually). Some fans won't like it but I doubt there will be huge outrage.
It has as much validity as your post. Not everyone loves Vince. People who aren't Longhorns, and who have objectivity might prefer Bush.
I haven't seen a huge change in the people I talk to. They still want Bush. I have season tickets to the Texans and the last few games people were chanting "Reggie Bush!" whenever the Texans blew a play. I doubt they would now be outraged at drafting Bush. I don't think people will be outraged at picking either one.
Why does that not work against Bush as well? If Bush cannot outrun you . . he is not as effective and actually. . . Bush looks physically lesss durable than VYoung Rocket River
