Agreed. We should have just had no roof with natural turf or a roof with artificial turf. Trying to have both was a mistake. How "natural" is our turf if we have to cart it in on pallets?
Didnt see this posted. Article from 2010 also about the Turf at Reliant: http://www.chron.com/sports/texans/...ords-hits-home-for-Texans-Reliant-1717518.php
Cowboys stadium has artificial turf... mainly because their stadium rarely gets enough sun due to the sheer size and the small opening. Their stadium's roof is also open less than ours. I think having our roof open is nice... just not for games that start at noon. The good news is with a quality team, this team will have more 3pm and night starts... which would mean more open roof games. The stadium is still damn loud with the roof open... maybe not as loud as it is closed, but certainly on par with Seattle and any other open stadium in the league.
Clowney blaming the injury on the field... Shaking my damn head at McNair... http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...on-clowney-injury-due-to-texans-turf-problems http://blog.chron.com/ultimatetexan...linked-to-clowneys-mensiscus-tear/#26508101=0
You do realize field-turf would be cheaper. They currently replace this grass field at least twice/year... and employ a full-time grounds-crew.
Mcnair's probably skimming money from this ongoing expense and the one time expenditure for field turf would dry up his laundering venture.
Yes, the one-time long-term cost will be cheaper... unless you think the McNairs are renting the Texans by the hour.
I'm guessing McNair will analyze the turf, but in the end, Clowney is either fragile or very VERY unlucky. I know which one I think.... Hope he proves me wrong. Who ever that turns out to be.
all monsters get a nickname, like nessie. why can't our turf monster get one? as long as he is no longer tripping arian when he is running.
It would be cheaper on any term. They have good artificial turf field already. All they would need to do is just not bring in the real grass.
Actually, since most of the turf companies are whores, they will fight for the right to give away the field in the name of marketing. There would be little out-of-pocket cost to the Texans. Maybe in the $100-200k range.
They already paid 1.2 million on artificial turf in 2012. Why would they need to spend another 200K and what would it buy them.
NRG already has a Field Turf surface that they started to use on top of the grass for high school/college games. It's not like they'd need to go out and buy it. It's not about the money. I think it's all about the stadium supposed to being an indoor, retractable roof stadium with a natural grass playing surface. That's what it was meant to be. But the roof is almost always closed. It apparently leaks water when it rains. The grass system sucks. If we put in artificial turf, it's like the last nail in the coffin of "why didn't we just build a ****ing dome in the first place?" Keeping the grass is like the last thing the stadium has to hold on to to kind of justify the extra cost for the retractable roof, even if that roof doesn't allow the grass to grow well while inside the stadium.
They already have the system for rolling up and storing the turf (a bulk of that initial investment). That field is not marked for professional games. The hash marks are different. Plus they likely would want a midfield logo and end zone letters. The turf they purchased for those high school and college games wasn't exactly NFL-level and the turf company didn't need to give it away because it's not one that's highly marketable. The NFL field should be of a much better quality and the turf company would likely be willing to cover much of the costs in return for the marketing ability.
I think you are just talking nonsense. It is the same exact turf the Rams bought to replace their 5 year old FieldTurf, so how is it not "exactly NFL-level"? They obviously felt it was BETTER than fieldturf because the warranty on that stuff is 8-10 years.
Exactly how many years have you worked in the synthetic turf industry? Cause I have 7. The brand "FieldTurf" is crap. Anyone that doesn't work for FieldTurf will tell you this. They're only a marketing company. A very good marketing company that has created a brand that has become like Coke and Kleenex. However, the other players in the industry (AstroTurf, Shaw, GreenFields, etc.) make a far superior product than FieldTurf. Typical warranty is 8 years. No NFL is on the ground for 8 years. It's typically in the marketing contract between the team and the turf company that it will be replaced in 3-4 years.
