Honestly I thought he looked solid. Knew when to throw it away, and also didn't panic like Gabbert in the pocket. Seemed to know where his "Escape valve" was n the field whenever he felt pressured and dumped it off to Foster
Not with TJ Yates the rest of the way. You only really have one impressive win and thats Pittsburgh at Reliant. Other than that its pretty much 7 cupcake wins. Texans are in for a rude awakening.
Yates impressed me more than Leinart. The guys on SportsRadio 610 were dogging the whole offense in the second half with him, but they clearly took the ball out of his hands outside of a couple of plays. With the defense playing lights out, and Yates being thrown in there with little preparation, no reason to ask him to do anything more than to hand it off and make an occasional short pass or to the flat to a RB. To me, he looked poised in the pocket, made his progressions well, read the defense/blitz and looked like he can make every throw. I'm not saying he's great or anything, but (only based on very little today) it looked like he will be serviceable enough to still win games.
I told people this season I'm through letting you Texans fans keep getting away with being homers. I'm calling you armchairs out. Stop being homers and I'll stop calling you homers. Simple as that. Anyone who thinks TJ Yates is better than Carson Palmer is a homer moron and not worthy of even being on the same planet as me.
The Obvious: Offense was blanked in the second half There was no respect for the pass with him, and he only made the pay once 66 Rating, 15 attempts to only come away with 70 yards Almost no attempt to even look deep 7 receivers combined came away with 127 yards The Desperately Optimistic Thoughts He displayed good poise for a rookie and had a good sense of when to get rid of the ball No INT or WTF tosses With Lowery and Landry tag teaming on AJ all day, NO ONE was going to connect with him deep. Leinart couldn't find him either - OD/Dreesen was opened up This is awful. Now, the upside is that Carolina and Indianapolis have wretched defenses, and our defense held Jax to 2 FGs. 2 wins and 2 TEN losses punches our ticket. Beat Indy, and we can get away with a loss to TEN that ties us and still sneak into the postseason.
Let's be honest. Leinart looked like crap aside from the one pass to Dressen. Yates looks down the field. The receiving unit needs to do a better job of getting open. The OL needs to block better. Everyone has to step it up for us to continue our winning streak. We'll win 13 if we manage to win next Sunday. We're finding ways to win. This isn't the same ol Texans.
Except when you need more than a game manager. Schaub / Leinart / Yates or Browning Nagle could have QB'd the 7 cupcake wins the Texans have. We'll see what happens when they have to play real teams.
