Obviously he isn’t the most liked by Astros fans, but Yasiel Puig is still a free agent...with Alvarez likely done for the season, it couldn’t hurt bringing in another high-caliber bat to the lineup as a DH/outfielder. Thoughts? Assuming they just bring him in for one season or a cheap two-year deal

Is Puig a high quality bat?

Puig, outstanding defender and a solid power hitter! I like the idea

Better than Toro and Straw. Would be a quality bat in the 7-9 spot. Assuming that’s where Dusty would put him

High speed, a plus defender and a solid power hitter. I think it’s a good choice.

    Is he really?

    How versatile is he?

So does that make him a quality bat or just better?

Somehow forgot how good of a defender he was. Could possibly place him in the outfield and move Brantley to DH

Is Puig the guy from the Dodgers that seemed half crazy?

I’d say he’s both. Reliable defender with a good bat. Toro and Straw just aren’t cutting it right now.

I’d be ok with signing Puig as long as the deal had a club option. But he’s not really very good. He’s closer in value to Reddick than he is to Springer/Brantley/Alvarez.

100%, but has great value as a guy hitting in the 7-9 holes. Just need more ammunition at the bottom IMO. You know what you’re going to get from Machete...but Straw and Toro have been almost guaranteed outs

    FIFY.And yes, he’s a bit of a head case/free spirit a la Metta World Peace/Dennis Rodman.

Would be an interesting addition. Puig is more of a quality 3rd/4th outfielder. We may not be able to rely on Diaz/Toro/Straw come playoff time. It’ll be interesting to see how Crane/Click deal with the Alvarez loss. I would think they prefer other options on the market than Puig but who knows.

Toro and Straw are free for all intents and purposes. Puig is not.

To afford Puig, Astros would have to get rid of someone. The easiest person to move with money owed is probably Gurriel (or someone better). So it isn't Puig vs Straw or Toro...it is Puig versus whoever salary he takes.

We could use him for a good fight against dodgers later in the season and possibly WS.

I haven't heard anything about Puig to the Astros in awhile.

My guess is with the Astros losing so much income they would only sign him for a small amount of money.

He is no longer a good fielder but he can still hit some.

Toro and Straw also have upside too.

I think some of this depends on the diagnosis or Verlander. Contrary to what has been recently reported, I have heard as of a week ago they were skeptical he would pitch again this year.

If Verlander and Alvarez are out....... an argument can be made that the Astros should do with Tucker, Straw and Toro; what they have done with the pitchers..... throw them to the wolves and see what happens.
