    From today's Chinese media:

    Yao Ming received his contract from Rockets.

    $10.4 million for three years.

    His salary is less than: K. Brown $17.29 million for four years;
    K Mart $16.53 million and E. Brand $15.78 million. And it is less than Tyson Chandler $15.47 million.

    Yao Ming was a little surprise about this offer.

    Thanks for the info WindandSea. I can't believe that we aren't offering him more.

    You would tend to think they would demand a very large contract considering he has to pay the government and the sharks and so forth.

    W&S,

    Thanks for the info.. that is very strange.. he definitely deserves more since he will make the team tons of money... I hope they give him a better offer...

    The Rocks are lowballing him? I thought he had to get a 3 year offer with the 4th and 5th year at the team option?

    This might not be good. Ming might be influenced that the Rockets don't want him as much as they said they did.

    Maybe the Rocks are worried about the CBA more then they let on.....it is all a part of bargaining boys and girls.

    Ming will be a Rocket....and this will all be worked out....the Rocks could say...well yeah..but he will not be here for training camp.......etc...

    W&S, by now you should be acustomed to the propaganda and miscommunication that is always present since this saga began. Take comfort in knowing that the Rockets are a class organization with a history of paying well. In addition they are acutely aware of what Ming means to them financially. My suggestion, relax.

    I thought the league now determines the pay scale for first round picks to avoid conflicts like those Jim Jackson and Juwan Howard had?

    I know why.
    ----------

    He won't be able to be fully committed to the Rockets organization
    all year long due to his commitment with
    his national team. In other words Yao ming is
    only a part-time employee for the Rockets. Sound reasonable to me.

    Windandsea,

    the article is misleading

    They are considering a 4th year for Kwama, etc, which is just a team option year and cannot be gauranteed, and thus usually not counted. It looks like the $10.4 number is only for the league mandated guaranteed 3 years.

    Salaries are locked into a narrow range, and teams/players cannot adjust much. Ming will get what the league allows. It look

    Yao Ming doesn't care about money. The report said that he didn't know the details of the contract until the reporter told him.

    BTW: This report also mentioned that Stromile Swift's salary: $14.80 million for four years. It's higher than Ming's.

    A set scale or minimum is provided by the NBA, then the team can offer a certain percentage increase above that scale for however long the contract is (3 or 4 with team option).

    120% of rookie scale as a salary base or 20% of rookie scale included as a one-time signing bonus. Either way, he or Kwama or anyone, cannot be compensated more than 120% over the rookie scale.

    The numbers windandsea provide for Kwama are counting the 4th year team option, which is not guaranteed. The numbers windandsea show for Ming are for the actual 3 guaranteed years.

    AHA....that is right it is only 3 years guaranteed.....Stromile Swift's contract is listed as a 4 year deal as is Kwame's etc.....don't believe the hype.

    This report said that Ming's salary is $10.80 million for three years and $14.00 million at most for four years.

    So the reporter compared some players.

    K. Brown $17.29 million for four years;
    K Mart $16.53 million for four year;
    E. Brand $15.78 million for four year;
    Tyson Chandler $15.47 million, for four years;
    Stromile Swift $14.80 million for four years.

    Then he made the conclusion that Ming is the lowest-salary-#1pick.

    You want to know what I think?

    Whatever else they would've given him in a MAX deal, they're going to "give him anyway". WINK WINK.

    Why do that? Because then he doesn't have to split it and will keep the whole rest of it?

    Just an opinion.
