This article from Wang Meng appeared today on Titan Sports/Tom.com where Yao Ming talked about Juwan Howard, Stromile Swift and the various power forwards he played with before and spelt out the requirements/qualifications for the future power forward of the Houston Rockets.

    Pretty interesting stuff......

So true. Without Juwan's performance in the first round, it probably wouldn't have been possible to blow a 2-0 series lead against Utah.

A defensive presence lasts more than 20 mins.

Leadership is one intangible that is so difficult to attain.

I sure hope we find someone who brings some direction to the locker room. It's quite obvious Yao and TMac aren't the guys, but I do think James and Wells could possibly help with that.

IMHO I would not put all the blame on the ineptness of Juwan Howard for Rockets' playoff failure.

The long and tiring NBA season, particularly that stretch of the season when Yao Ming was sidelined with his knee injury, had completely worn and torn those old veterans, Juwan and Mutombo in particular, that they were already physcially and psychologically early burnt-outs upon the arrival of the playoff.

The fact still stood. Mutombo and Juwan were the 2 major players that stepped up during Yao Ming's absence, and contributed immensely to a > 50 W regular season.

Yao is not a gentleman. How could Yao keep a lady outside his room? Too rude, too cruel. At least invite the lady inside his room and check if anything he could help. The lady might have a sad story to tell. The lady wouldnt rape Yao, I guess. :p

and without Juwan's performance when Yao was out, the Rockets will probably be 7 or 8th seed.

NENE makes Only 2.5 mil more per season than Juwan

At the power forward we need to be bold and spend as much or more than we did on Juwan. A strong player- rebounder- shot blocker will help Yao and front court and this team win. Yao needs his Otis Thorpe to help him...

By the way- Props to Juwan- I had never heard he was such a locker room presence and a leader

According to the numbers at Hoopshype.com, it's around 4.2M more.

It will be interesting to see what type of PF Morey/Adelman decide to put with Yao. With Eddie Griffin, Kelvin Cato, Juwan Howard, and Chuck Hayes being the 4 PFs to start alongside of Yao, I would like to see a PF that can both rebound and shoot the mid-range jumper.

Both Cato and Hayes were about as offensively handicapped as they come, Juwan wasn't a great rebounder, and well Eddie Griffin was a mix of both but was WAY too inconsistent. Stromile might have been the best fit had he not been a basketball player with almost no IQ.

I know he is a shell of his former self but I would still like the Rockets to take a look at Chris Webber. An excellent passer that can shoot that mid-range shooter just as well as any big man, he knows the system and I'm sure he wouldn't mind playing alongside Yao and TMac.
