He's the biggest name and there aren't many options at C on the ballot. To me, its silly that people can't vote in Gasol or Duncan as a C. That's the position they play this year. Then again, maybe it wouldn't make a difference and Yao would still be the leading vote getter.
Better link with more complete data. http://www.nba.com/2010/news/12/30/allstar-ballot-results-2/index.html East Forwards: LeBron James (Heat) 969,459 Kevin Garnett (Celtics) 712,555 Amar'e Stoudemire (Knicks) 637,486 Paul Pierce (Celtics) 381,348 Chris Celtics (Heat) 260,007 Josh Smith (Hawks) 193,897 Carlos Boozer (Bulls) 159,073 Danilo Gallinari (Knicks) 127,726 Andre Iguodala (76ers) 115,660 Danny Granger (Pacers) 107,145 West Forwards: Kevin Durant (Thunder) 735,521 Carmelo Anthony (Nuggets) 602,516 Pau Gasol (Lakers) 597,201 Dirk Nowitzki (Mavs) 447,737 Tim Duncan (Spurs) 436,651 Blake Griffin (Clippers) 435,857 amar Odom (Lakers) 232,299 Luis Scola (Rockets) 197,728 Kevin Love (T-Wolves) 171,945 Caron Butler (Mavs) 168,937 East Guards: Dwyane Wade (Heat) 938,402 Rajon Rondo (Celtics) 777,310 Derrick Rose (Bulls) 721,122 Ray Allen (Celtics) 392,441 John Wall (Wizards) 169,219 Gilbert Arenas (Magic) 144,889 Brandon Jennings (Bucks) 128,556 Raymond Felton (Knicks) 105,425 Joe Johnson (Hawks) 99,598 Jamal Crawford (Hawks) 97,809 West Guards: Kobe Bryant (Lakers) 1,153,694 Chris Paul (Hornets) 585,690 Manu Ginobili (Spurs) 403,632 Steve Nash (Suns) 321,659 Deron Williams (Utah) 313,011 Jason Kidd (Mavs) 234,779 Russell Westbrook (Thunder) 233,593 Tony Parker (Spurs) 219,378 Vince Carter (Suns) 185,213 Eric Gordon (Clippers) 179,917 East Centers: Dwight Howard (Magic) 988,572 Shaquille O'Neal (Celtics) 410,663 Joakim Noah (Bulls) 153,657 Al Horford (Hawks) 120,404 Andrew Bogut (Bucks) 110,153 Andrea Bargnani (Raptors) 92,822 Brook Lopez (Nets) 77,048 Roy Hibbert (Pacers) 70,698 JaVale McGee (Wizards) 59,508 Ben Wallace (Pistons) 44,375 West Centers: Yao Ming (Rockets) 637,527 Andrew Bynum (Lakers) 376,283 Brendan Haywood (Mavs) 215,905 Nene (Nuggets) 211,475 Marc Gasol (Grizzlies) 205,227 Emeka Okafor (Hornets) 172,012 Chris Kaman (Clippers) 131,741 Marcus Camby (Blazers) 111,346 Andris Biedrins (Warriors) 65,908 Robin Lopez (Suns) 62,199
So the top 3 center vote getters in the west are: Yao: Out for season after playing 5 games. Bynum: Just returned to action. Haywood: Not even the starting center on his own team. Hmmm...
Eh, whatever. We all know that Bynum will somehow mysteriously rally at the end at end up with the most votes.
Its hard to find a truly all-star caliber C (that is eligible to be voted in at C). I think I'd go with Chandler, though it should be Gasol.
It's not even about China There are no good centers in the west period, Yao Ming with no legs are better than most starting centers in the conference
As much as I love Yao to play, he don't deserve to even be mentioned in the ALL Star Ballot. He hasn't played for the last 2 years and yet he is still the top voted Center in the West. It sucks for the other Centers in the West that truly deserves to be voted in. The votes for the West Center is r****ded. Yao Ming 1st, Bynum 2nd and Haywood 3rd? The three of those guys barely contribute to their teams so far. Haywood is a bench player for the Mavs, Bynum barely returns but yet he's the second leading votes for Center in the West and Yao Ming has played only 7 games the last 2 seasons. Its funny how that turned out.
I think Nene deserves to be the starting Center for the west. He is playing exceptionally well. The top three centers for the West should be Nene, Kamen and Marc Gasol. But unfortunately it doesn't work like that. This year Nene is playing at a high level. I think he deserves to start.
HAHA no doubt. I guess being in that Miami spotlight in the center of the media really made all your dreams come true huh Chris. Now you are truly known and world famous.
Maybe it's a good thing... Wouldn't the NBA be able to replace Yao with whoever they wanted to if he got the starting spot? That would be much better than an undeserving Bynum getting voted in by the fans.
The NBA has this screwed up, centers shouldn't get their own vote. If i could change it, I would make it 2 Bigs, 2 wings, and a PG instead. Nene is averageing 15 and 7 on a mediocre team Marc Gasol is averaging 12 and 7 on a bad team Chandler is avg 9 and 9 on a great team Kaman, Yao and Bynum have barely even played, and Haywood plays 19 mpg there is nobody even remotely qualified to be an all star among west centers. I agree Yao will be replaced by a deserving power forward, so it works out in the end.
I love Scola but how the hell is the first 20-15 player since Moses freaking Malone behind him? Let alone Lamar Odom.
Hurry! Let's sabotage our own player, clearly Andrew Bynum and Brenda Freakin Haywood deserve it since day one. There truly is no All Star center in the west in that ballot. I guess Nene is the most deserving one, and you can hardly call his numbers an All Star deserving performance. I agree with Chandler as well, him and Nene have been the most impactful centers in helping their respective teams. In the East, Al Horford deserves to be called in by the coaches.
