http://blog.chron.com/ultimaterockets/2015/12/yao-ming-among-ex-rockets-personnel-nominated-for-basketball-hall-of-fame/ He will get there soon
He deserves it. He's 50/50 when it comes to just NBA accomplishments, but with all the contributions he made to basketball, he should be a shoo-in. He's also the 3rd greatest Rockets big man ever, which is saying a lot given the Rockets' rich history of great big men.
Saw the news 25 minutes ago, but OPs tend to get bashed for not just tacking this on to another thread... That being said, he gets in this year or next with Petrovic in there. Unrelated note, my dad has the same Chinese name. My relatives were disappointed the first time they met him after being told that Yao Ming was coming.
3rd greatest Rockets big man ever...based on Win Shares while a Rocket. That list has Chuck Hayes as the 6th best Rockets big man of all time. I mean, I loved the Chuckwagon while he was here, but surely that has got to be a huge stretch. That said, Yao absolutely deserves it!
Here's an alternate list sorted by PER with minimum 100 games with the Rockets. He's still third. http://bkref.com/tiny/n0xxh
As for today, Yao is better any current players on the rockets as a NBA player overall. No one of them is working hard like Yao, good as Yao too, maybe? Harden is great, but he is very lazy. I will take Scola, Yao, Lowry on my team every day.
injuries and idiot refs kept him from ever getting to the finals. and although HOF entrance is nice, you gotta wonder how much it eats at him that his potential was never realized
Why in the world is Rudy not in? The hall is infamously lax on their prerequisites and he's a 2 time NBA champion head coach in addition to all-star player.
100 percent YES. He was a legit 25 point, 10 rebound center since season 2006 until his opt-injured retirement. and like the other said, the nr. 3 in the history of Hou tall guy. His basketball stats alone are hall of fame worthy. Besides that, he brought more fans to the NBA than any other single player in recent memory. He turned us Chinese dynasty into an NBA market! Huge contribution on spreading the NBA brand into the whole world.
Wow Rudy T looks so sickly . He was a brawny coach that had not just the height but the big build that could really put players in their place.
Whether his play was entirely HOF caliber may always be argued on this forum...but he means so much more to the game than his stats. He was a pioneer, expected to fail(be the next Shawn Bradley). Rather, he proved that even a 7'6 giant can be skillful. Yao is very deserving for the HOF. Just wished his career wasnt riddled with injuries...and that he was a few inches shorter. If he has Shaq's respect...he sure as heck has mine. Yao averaged: 19.0PPG/9.2RPG/1.9BPG/.542 shooting average PS. 7 year Career #'s took a hit for the 5 games he played in 2011...
