Shane Battier said:

The Rockets had little go as they wanted on the last night of the regular season. They lost to the Mavericks. The Spurs came back to beat the Hornets, costing the Rockets the Southwest Division title. The Blazers beat the Nuggets, winning home-court advantage in their series against the Rockets.

They did, however, get what they wanted the night before, with the Lakers beating the Jazz, ending any chance the Rockets would have of facing Utah in the first round for a third-consecutive season.

“I’m OK because I already told the guys, the coaches and Daryl (Morey, the Rockets GM), everybody knows, if we play Utah, I’m not going,” Shane Battier said. “I’ll play the home games, but I’m not going on that plane. I’m sorry. I spent too much of my life in Salt Lake City. I want to see some other cities in this world.

“That’s part of my development as a person, I felt I needed to experience more than just going to Utah every year for the first round of the playoffs. Nothing against the great State of Utah and the people of Salt Lake. For my own personal development, I need to venture to every corner of the Earth.”

Told that Jazz fans might not take his desire to not return to Salt Lake City as no more than a search for new experiences, he said, “Are they going to boo me more than they already do in Utah? Oh, no.”

The only way teh Rockets are gonna come away with a win in Portland is if they stay loose, and not focus too much on last night. It's gonna be nice watching us play a team who has players that I actually respect.....not players who, every time I see their ugly face, I want to stab the closest thing to me.
