You forgot that his last contract in effect also gave him a one-time $6+ million bump on the final year of his prior contract.

See the link Bima provided that has all the details. As it notes, the truth is his last contract gave him $17+ million more for the next 4 years.

And, despite the guaranteed nature of the contract, money today is still worth more than money tomorrow, so it's not meaningless... especially when you consider the amount paid upfront...

Collison was NOT underpaid previously.
