The New Jersey Nets are struggling. They have the league's worst record at 6-53. Because of that, they're last in attendance. To combat this they've tried a few bizarre promotions over the years. First, they gave away tickets to unemployed workers, and also gave them career advice. Then, if you bought a 10-game ticket plan you got a jersey that featured not just a Net, but also an opposing player. This Friday, the Nets will unleash another in their long line of minor league-esque promos: Their latest promotion will be unveiled Friday, when the Nets play the Orlando Magic. New Jersey residents 18 or older who attend the game will get a coupon that they can redeem at a Roni Deutch Tax Center to get their state income tax done free. No one likes doing their taxes, but is it worth having to go to a Nets game? At just a $29 value, I'm not so sure. But you have to admire the gumption of Roni Deutch, the eponymous tax attorney offering the promotion. She says, "The hallmark of a strong company is one that aligns with young companies. I'm a betting woman, and I think the Nets are going to win a championship this decade." Probably not, but she's not the first to make such a proclamation.

Wow that's pretty extreme man. How are they gonna profit with all those give-aways?? And to think they want to get LerBon or Wade to sign this off season.

Maybe Jordan could buy the Nets too. Or Jay Z should buy the majority.

any NYC or NJ rockets fan's like myself hit me up, I have access to front row seats, yes feet on the wood for more than 50% off, I've been to one, and it was just crazy to be up there, hearing the players talk trash so on, let me knwo if anyone wants to split tickets on a future game, cheers

The Nets couldn't even get people in the seats when they were good. They have no chance now. This promotion is actually pretty funny.

Dude they probably lost nothing on this deal and that tax company gets mad business.

I live in NYC, and I was on the Nets telemarketing list from my last year's Rockets vs NEts game. This representative was calling me like every week describing season and mini game plans. Thank god I didnt buy into.

i would, i'm in philly, close enough for half off for courtside seats, only i just checked the schedule and there aren't any games there this season.

That's what I love about having a crappy team in my state, they'll do anything to sell tix. I want to the Nets-Rockets game, I got great seats(front row of the 2nd tier, in the middle of the court) for $75 incl. tax. Plus a free program,t-shirt, and a 10% off modell's coupon For $75 I couldn't even get a seat in MAdison squre garden.

Yeah I know, I mean, they're bad. But not these bad. I think talent-wise, the Clippers, Kings, TWolves, warriors, and wizards are worse.

bushies, yea the nets have a few more home games this season and Im sure I can get the same deal, just keep me posted look at their schedule, most the high demand games(cavs,magic) I can't get it, but lower market teams I can. I went to the game against wizards, it was still competitive fun, and nothing like sitting on the wood.

you could hear the players talking trash and all kinds of things and a courtside club in the back to hang out, so its a cool experience

Poor Mikhail Prokhorov. Last month we reported that the metals magnate had been replaced as Russia's richest man by Vladimir Lisin, and now languishes in second place. Now a court in Nice has just ruled that the oligarch must forfeit the $55 million deposit he put down for the magnificent $750 million Villa Leopolda (above) on the French Riviera in 2008 before backing out of the deal, the London Daily Mail reports. Prokhorov signed a sales agreement for the Villa, and French law stipulates that purchasers lose their deposits if they pull out after such an agreement has been executed. The magistrate also ordered Prokhorov to pay the Villa's owner Lily Safra an additional $1.5 million penalty. Safra says she will donate all the money to ten charities, including almost $1.5 million for neuroscience research at King's College London and Imperial College London. "By transforming the deposit into an act of giving I would like to encourage all who can do so to support medical research and other humanitarian causes," she declared. On the plus side for Prokhorov, he's still worth a cool $17.85 billion.
