I think he'll be traded before training camp begins. I still think NJ is the team to beat, but who knows.

If the Chicago trade were to go down, it would be one of the best starting lineups in the league, if not the best:

    Rose
Brewer (provided he isn't part of the deal)
    Anthony
    Boozer
    Noah

That would be a huge risk, he'd have to give up some valuable assets. I doubt he;d be willing to take that risk on a guy who's already leaving a talented team for destinations of his liking.

I believe if Yao reaches some level of prior success, the attraction of Houston will become much brighter. Then your scenario might be more likely.

I think you're both missing my point. If Melo sticks to his guns and won't accept extensions to anywhere but Chicago and NY, then the asking price for the Nuggets has to come down. The Knicks would rather wait til the offseason before signing him, and the Bulls simply don't have an attractive package.

If all the Rockets have to give up are 2 1st round picks(from NY), expirings(Battier/Jeffries), and perhaps CBud, wouldn't that be worth one shot at a championship? I'd think so. And that's not even considering the fact that we might have the inside edge on resigning Melo in the offseason if we actually get to the finals or win it.

If your premise is right (i.e. the asking price will come down) then maybe. But if you have to give up either Brooks or Martin, then I don't think Morey would do that. In fact, I am not sure Morey would give up either of those pieces even if Melo would sign an extension. It all depends on how much Morey values Melo with his well-documented inefficiency.

Yeah, if Melo wants to win, that is an appealing vision. Ulimately, this is just more of the same random speculation though.
