Last year he was said to have a 6 million buy out, but Tau accepted to get three, because of Scola wanting to go to the NBA. The Spurs never made an offer to Scola.

He signed that contract being almost a teenager. When he signed that contract, an Argentine player never have had the kind of success Scola finally had in Europe. And there were 0 Argentine players in the NBA.

It was a good opportunity for him to sign a 10 year contract with an important European Team, he was in no position to negociate a lower buy out.

But money was not the main issue for him not being a Spur.

It was his intention. He has waited for an offer or a trade from the Spurs for some years, and nothing happened and he gets to the last season of his contract next year. He was going to sign the last contract of his career for a load of money (for European standards).

I like how eager it is to come over an play, especially considering that he actually waited for almost 4-5 years... unlike vspan who whined his way out an NBA career.
