The rarest attribute in the NBA is the ability to make your teammates better. No question Kidd possesses a lot more of that quality than Harris does. And you won't need Kidd to carry any of the scoring load which makes him that much deadlier. I would also suspect the run some set plays with Kidd in the post and Dirk out high. Could be nasty.

Defensively I realize Harris is one of the most promising in the league but what Kidd gives defensively is size and strength. Meaning Deron Williams and Baron Davis won't be bumping off and throwing around the Mavs PG rotation any longer. That alone is huge.

What Kidd brings to the Mavericks isn't just his basketball skills...but also a killer instinct mentality as well. Dirk and Josh will benefit tremendously with Kidd being the leader of the team. That, in itself, could get Dallas over the hump.

No way the Blazers do this. Outlaw is part of the future of this team.

I think the Mavs are already the best team in the West.

Jason Kidd can't shoot and like others have mentioned they lose a lot of speed and perimeter defense if they lose Harris.

We're talking about Jason Kidd one of the best PG's ever. Devin Harris wishes he could be half as good as Kidd one day. Kidd still has a lot left in the tank. Don't let his half-ass effort this year deter you from thinking that he won't tear it up again when he's fully motivated.

If Dallas does end up with Kidd, I wonder how long it'll take to adjust? It would be quite a shakeup.

This trade helps both Mavs and Portland.

Mavs are looking to win now. Cuban is desperate. If Kidd comes to Dallas, he will handle the ball 90% of the time, especially in playoffs. He will create havoc by driving in the lane and distributing to shooters like Dirk, josh Howard, and Terry. The best way to beat Dallas would be to leave Kidd open for jump shots since he still cannot shoot. I guess Dallas will be betting that Kidd's lack of outside shot can be overcome by a strong supporting cast of Jason/Josh/Dirk. Oh, and Jason Kidd can play defense too.

Portland is not looking to win now. They are looking to be contenders in 2-3 years from now. They have all the pieces except a point guard. Brandon Roy is more suited as a shooting guard than a point guard. Having a legit point guard to run the show will make Roy much much more dangerous. It will also open up his coming off the screen for an open jumper look. Now, I absolutely hate Devin Harris. The guy is a premier flopper in the league and is just a whiny little b****. Yet, he is quick, has good size for a PG, penetrates well, finishes extremely well, shoots from outside at a high %, and plays good defense. Oh, and he is young and keeps getting better.

So if this trade goes through....

Mavs get the player that wants to win now on their win now team.

Blazers get an up and coming player who is getting it all together just as the Blazers are getting it all together as a team.

And Nets....Well who really gives a damn about the Nets?!?!

It should not take long since the whole concept will be based on Kidd running the show. Kidd is smart enough to create and find shooters, especially if the shooters/scorers are likes of Josh Howard, Jason Terry and Dirk.

I would just be interested in seeing how Avery Johnson would mask Kidd's lack of outside shooting, since that's what the teams would give Dallas in playoffs.

I see what you mean although I don't really consider him "dumb" like the J.R. Smith types. I think he plays relatively mistake free with his biggest shortcomings being that he's kind of a softy that looks lost out there at times. Considering his height, wingspan and leaping ability you would expect him to be a much better rebounder too.

He would get traded to NJ in this scenario, right? Unless they gave him minutes at PF he's going to be buried behind Carter and Jefferson playing 40 minutes a night. That sucks for his sake. I'd rather see him in Houston leading our second unit.

Am I the only one who thinks this is a good trade? And I don't mean for the Rockets.

I'm not sure how much better Jason Kidd will make the Mavs, and i'm not sure if they'll be able to beat us in full stride when we meet, but otherwise, this is a good trade in my opinon.

The Blazers get a young, talented (ewww) point guard in Devin Harris who has at least some veteran savvy and experience. They have enough talent to drop off Frye, Outlaw, and Jack. When they receive Harris and get Oden back next season, they will barely miss them and they are going to be pretty good.

^That's the team I won't want to play next season.

The Nets receive Channing Frye (Mr. potential PF), Jarret Jack (proven veteran PG) Stackhouse (proven veteran scoring punch, can buy out), Devean George (shooter) Travis Outlaw (shooter/athletic defender)

when you pair that up with VC and RJ, that's pretty damn good after you let them mesh.

I don't see why the Mavs would do this though. I mean Jason Kidd is good, but is he really going to make them all that better? That's the one part I can't personally understand. I mean he could contribute and get a free ride on a good team and the Mavs would have an experienced do-it-all PG...and they dump Harris? The butt of so many jokes?

    I don't get that part.

I am going to hate playing Portland next season. Devin Harris, Brandon Roy, (Jones?), LaMarcus Aldridge, and Greg Oden?

They are going to tear a lot of teams a new one when they meet.

With the Nets, Outlaw would supplant Nachbar, who is never going to be much of anything. 20-25 mins/game backing up VC & Jefferson would be perfect for him.

Here is what Joh Hollinger says.....and I agree with him. Kidds best days are way behind him and I really don't see how he makes the mavs better than what they already are. Their biggest weakness is the lack of a true low post scorer and they tried to adress that with Brandon Bass....who is still very raw.

No idea what Dallas will do in regards to a trade, but after seeing the Pistons smash the Mavericks, it is hard to imagine Cuban letting his team remain the same.

The two best passers and creators on the team.

Anyways, Cuban said he isn't trading for Kidd. I don't know what Rod Thorn was thinking asking for so much, but Mavs organization isn't made up of idiots.
