One guy stakes another guy in the World Series of Poker. The player wins the WSOP. Which person gets the trophy (bracelet), the player, or the staker? or they should share it?
It's the player unless agreed upon beforehand, because WSOP will award the event bracelet to the registered player. Staking is usually about investing in the profits.
i'm curious in a more general and rightful sense than just because the name is registered. you can replace wsop to something else less formal. say i staked you in a fantasy football home league that awarded a trophy. should i get the trophy, should you, or should it be shared
I think the better question to ask is: Are you six years old? And if not, why does the trophy even matter? But seriously, I see know logical way to solve this without not having setup terms beforehand.
The award should go to the player. I know this because when James Bond won in Casino Royale with the CIA's money, Bond got to keep the winnings.
It should be agreed to, in writing, ahead of time. Absent any formal agreement, I'd say the player keeps it.
of course the player does. the stake just gets % of the buyin that he staked the player. also someone commented on the trophy, it's actually a gold bracelet with diamonds on it so it's worth a good chunk
i know, that's why i wanted to remove value out of the equation, and make it a more general question of who rightfully should receive it. pretend the bracelet has zero cash value/it will never be liquidated.
The bracelet is a representation of the skill of the player who one, the staker has no effect on that, so there is no reason he would get the bracelet. The staker would get the agreed portion of the proceeds. What would the bracelet represent to the staker, that he is good at recognizing a good poker player?
Did someone stake you in wsop, and now they want your bracelet?? Anyway... I think unless agreed upon before tournament... player gets bracelet then winnings are split up with whatever was agreed on. I mean I'm not sure why someone would stake a player for free, haha. I also can see why someone who paid for a player might want the bracelet since they tend to be worth more than just a trophy... Maybe the bracelet could be added to the total winnings and taken out of the purse (with the bracelet going to player and extra winnings to provider)... But seriously op, did you win???
Staker only get's their cut of the prize money. The player earned the bracelet plus whatever money that's not owed to the staker. Unless specifically stated of course.
