    :D

Perhaps Boki is on to something though. Greedy U.S. players might try to cash in as well.

    The reason is money.

Right now, it seems that Euro teams are willing to sign low to mid-end role players for near MLE money. NBA teams are stringent to this kind of players but are more willing to throw big money to stars and high-end role players.

isn't there a High School prep star already planning to play in europe?

Anyway, i think this is becoming a problem. Boki isn't a great player but he is definitely NBA caliber and if this keeps happening it could really hurt the league. What if some team in Europe offers Ginobli more money in 2010 or, even worse, an American born player.

Hmm...being stuck on some losing team in the US for less money or being on a winning team in Europe for more money...tough choice.

Of course, SpamFisher couldn't wait to make one more derogatory comment about Nachbar...

Lost in these Euro/Russian migrations is that guy like Boki fit so much more naturally in these leagues. It's the style of game they were raised/trained on. NBA basketball is a different creature - physical and handle oriented. Globally, the game is finesse and jumper oriented.

Once money becomes equal, wouldn't you want to play the kind game you're used to?

He's right though -- Nachbar is not an NBA quality player.

Huh? He played 22 mpg last season. If he is not an NBA quality player, half of the players in the league aren't.

Well, obviously he wasn't good enough for teams to offer him the MLE or more. We're not even sure if any teams made any offers to him. If were looking at the recent trends of guys leaving for Europe, they're getting deals that they won't get over here. Its all about the money. And people still want to say that all us dirty Americans care about is money. What about these punks leaving the highest level league in the world for extra cash?

At this point, if a player of Childress' quality ever goes over I fully expect SamFisher to call him a scrub.

He got his shot and didn't deliver -- so off to Europe he goes.

I'm sensing Jilted Boyfriend Syndrome in this thread.

Nachbar's point is that MLE is not good enough to beat Europe's offer. Obviously, the teams with cap space (and I don't know if there are any left with cap space at this point) won't spend it on Nachbar. So, he's looking at a full-MLE at best. The full MLE, minus taxes, is worth less than the Russian team if offering. It's a no-brainer.

And, what is with the complaint about money-grubbing? (1) I don't think the Europeans ever claimed to not be about the money. (2) The European leagues aren't much worse than the NBA in quality of play, and the gap is closing. (3) Boki may not only be thinking about the money, but also his own comfort in a more European culture, and a more European game. Not, to mention he'll get more groupie chicks as one of the best players on his team.

I know it hurts when your girlfriend dumps you for a lout with a nicer car. But, don't take it so hard. She was a great girl, but the lout isn't so bad as all that and he did afterall have the nicer car. There are plenty of fish in the sea.
