So you're saying Smith is the one that wanted Watson, and O'Brien decided to start Savage, yes?

Whatever it took to get Watson was worth it. He is a once in a lifetime type player if he can stay healthy.

Still a bit uncomfortable anointing Watson as MVP-level after 6 games. Albeit, 5 of those games were stellar but I'm going to try and temper my expectations of him until I see him perform well next season too. I don't want to be disappointed.

You do realize teams put out misinformation to disguise their interest.

I don't think Jimmy G wanted to go there and he shares the same agent as Brady.

Not sure how much that matters but I think the Pats wanted to accommodate him

As a non-Texans fan with no dog in the fight, I would have to agree with you guys that whatever it took to get him is worth it.

I was high on him before the draft because he always seemed like that guy who was willing to do whatever it takes to be great. He even exceeded my expectations with the way he played in those games he was able to play.

Giving up a first rounder to get him was the right move, even knowing it turned into the #4 pick.

Oh I know, I'm just saying that the Texans are a cursed franchise, especially at the QB position. Naturally I am wired to be pessimistic on everything.

Perhaps but you have to take into account that this is his second torn ACL as he played his freshman year at Clemson with an ACL injury. This could be something to be concerned about going forward or just bad luck. At any rate it's troubling at the very least.

That definitely sounds like something Belichick would take into consideration.

You probably will be. The league will adjust to take away what he did well, and he'll have to adjust back.

Second year for QBs is typically rough. Often moreso if they had early success. See: Dak.

It also doesn't sound like Belichick would forget to call a team desperate for a QB

Agree completely with this. It wasn't too difficult to project a rough 2017 for Dak. However, I think Dak and Deshaun found success in very different ways during their rookie seasons. Watson consistently (and successfully) took shots down field and into tight windows. That's something that Dak rarely did during his rookie season. He hit tons of check-downs and little crossing routes to Beasley that ended up going for 15-20. They ran a dink and dunk offense. Not trying to take anything away from Dak, or denying the possibility that Watson could very well have a Sophomore slump, but hopefully defenses will have a tougher time adapting to Watson than they did to Dak.

Gotta get him an OL, and we won't be able to make much headway on that with the bad free agent class and no high picks.

Deshaun will still be running for his life.
