Peyton is the best play action QB in the league. The Colts killed people with that throughout the 2000s, Edge and Addai... that's the argument for bringing him here. He would destroy people with our play action. He probably wouldn't bootleg as much, though.

Maybe it's been too long since I've seen the Colts with a decent run game, but I remember Edge, and especially Addai being great at swing passes, screens, and delay handoffs. Even if Peyton was great at it then, nobody but nobody playfakes as well as Schaub does now. He hides the ball better than anyone. He usually fakes out the cameraman. The only weakness in his bootleg game is that he doesn't go to the second-level guy enough.

The Texans system is predicated on the bootleg working. Yes, Peyton might have the best ball fake of all time. But the 15 minutes it would take him to get to the outside probably would get him killed.

Running something 2-3 times a game doesn't seem predicated to me.

It is an effective weapon we utilize, but it's by no means the centerpiece of our offense.

    2009 Peyton Manning? Hell no.

2012 Peyton Manning? I would say yes.

I think it's run more than that and it's the play counted on for big gains. It might not be run 20 times a game, but having it be effective and useful makes it a big part of any defensive coordinators game planning against the Texans.

No. I'm saying that they'd have to make some major adjustments with Peyton Manning as quarterback. The outside zone and bootlegs that have been so effective for the Texans would not work as well with Peyton Manning. On the other hand, Joel Dreesen and Owen Daniels would put up Gronkowski-esue numbers.

    THE GRASS IS ALWAYS GREENER!

Unfortunately, while it's greener, it has a career threatening, debilitating, "will he ever play football again?" injury.

We don't even know if he'll be able to make it through a season again and we are talking about trading Matt Schaub for him?

No clue, and don't want to find out. The Texans have a good thing going. There is no reason whatsoever to bring in a poor-fit quarterback, even if he was one of the greatest of all time 3 years ago.

If your Offensive Coordinator can't incorporate the strengths of a healthy Peyton Manning and the current system to come up something better than what he can do with Matt Schaub, that coordinator should be fired.

The idea that he wouldn't be an upgrade because he can't run bootlegs or can't hand off to Arian Foster well  is insane.

There may be good reasons not to bring him in - cost, health, etc - but "the Texans would be worse" is not one of them. That's the same logic that caused people to say the Texans couldn't use an upgrade like Brandon Lloyd because Kevin Walter is a great fit as a run blocker - never mind that the team had zero downfield threat for much of the season.

Since 2008, the Texans offense ranks #3 in the NFL only behind New Orleans and New England. A big reason for that? MATT SCHAUB. Matt has how many weapons on offense that have been drafted in top rounds? It is a good thing the Texans spend all of their draft picks and free agent money on offense or this Schaub guy would be terrible.

Matt gets his chance again next year and proves all of the doubters wrong.

nope, #1 doesn't make any difference. the only way it makes sense to chase him is if he's going to play, and if you want to better your chances of winning super bowls.
