Melo being a one year deal makes little difference if we're going to keep Clint and Chris, we won't have enough cap space anyway after the next season, unless those two end up being way underpaid which is unlikely, keep in mind that Harden extension will kick in next summer and he'll get close to 40M. If you swap Melo and Anderson contract you actually end up to pay more just to lose the chance to make a trade for a big salary in the next 12/24 months, cap space won't be there anyway after Melo expires.

How would a Lebron opt in and trade get done without using Ryno’s salary in some form or fashion?

Ugh people cmon. When you operate over the cap you want contracts so to improve your team you can match salaries. Clearing Rynos 20 million and getting melo just to cut a year off actually hurts us. We would still have no cap room and no contracts to trade.

Dumb Dumb Dumb. People need to learn basic cap operation before talking like they know whats up

All you are doing at that point is losing roster flexibility and saving tillman luxury tax

Guys read above. Losing the contract year is a detriment. WE HAVE BEEN, AND ARE GOING TO BE WAY OVER THE CAP. Andersons contract wont bring us under. When you operate over the cap you need contracts to trade. You arent getting ryno off your cap to acquire anything else. At that point reducing the 1 year with melo is just meaning the year after next we lose that contract and cant sign anyone like that. All you are doing is losing flexibility and saving tillman some extra luxury tax

What if it ended up being....

    OKC IN: Ryno
CLE IN: Melo and Eric Gordon
    HOU IN: LeBron and Clarkson

Oh how sweet that would be!

While I do think Ryno could have been a decent fit with Westbrook at one point or another, I don't see how OKC would want to take him now even if it is to unload Melo. They'd much rather put up with one more year of Melo rather than 2 of someone that didn't really play the past 4 months even when healthy. Front offices are a lot smarter these days. They are also a lot more careful with taking on contracts with multiple years remaining.

If PG leaves they're not going to want tie their money up for two more years in case they need to get closer to a big roster make over. If PG stays they owe such a ridiculous amount of money to players the sooner the better to unload contracts.

We have to be prepared with the idea of having the exact same team as last year with the addition of a mid-level veteran or one tailing off but wanting one last shot at a ring. But I'm not saying that is a horrible thing. I loved our team this year.

Contract wise sure...chemistry wise hell no. Melo deserves to be on the bench. That’s where he’d be helpful on this team. But because he thinks he’s the #2 option at worst on any team he won’t and create drama. Not worth that one less year.

Westbrook certainly neuters his players, and Melo is getting older... it's a mix of both.

If you look at his offseason workout footage from last year when he was getting reps in with Harden and Paul at lifetime everyday, he was in much better shape. And I mean like 10-20lbs lighter. He got traded to OKC, and because Melo is Melo and can't self motivate like Paul and Harden can, he stopped the routine because he knew OKC wouldn't be nearly as good as Houston.

You would certainly see a jump in production from Melo if he came here, and he'd probably be in better shape. I'd do the trade in a heartbeat.

The key with Melo is your defensive scheme has to keep switching him off one guy he can't possibly guard onto another guy he can't possibly guard.

I honestly don't know how to use Melo. He really doesn't do anything anymore. Liability everywhere, just jab steps and bricks.

With our switching defense Melo would get torched just as bad as Anderson

Hold up wouldn't Melo stop us from getting Lebron. He has a ETO, basically a player option. We can't trade him and would need to get off his contract to get Lebron.

Won't happen, but I'd trade Gordon, Anderson, a 1st rounder, plus filler for an extended Paul George.

No because I want Ryan Anderson gone and his $20 million is easier to move. If we were to trade Melo we would basically be forfeiting LeBron.
