Letting go of Adelman is not an easy move. Anyone with a brain knows Adelman is a HOF coach. Rockets made a difficult but correct decision: to lose big in the next couple of years. Rockets management is as good as I expected though they should have fired Adelman 2 years ago. The tanking is 2-year late but we have enough time to fix it.
Les is the owner he's the boss his employee Adelman wont do what he asked him to do what more do you want?
Keeping Kubiak is the definition of insanity. Morey is taking a major risk but the reality is a positive result is still very possible.
i want an opinion to my question, not someone telling me that owners can do what they want. what does that have to do with the price of tea in China
Letting Adelman go was not nearly as idiotic as firing Jeff Van Gundy, to be honest. Adelman is a great coach in his own right, but it is understandable if there were major philosophical differences between him and the front office. On the other hand, perpetually keeping around Gary Kubiak and endorsing year upon year of failure and mediocrity is just asinine. Adelman never had a losing season with Houston and won a playoff series. JVG's teams were among the best defensive units in the league, and with the exception of the injury-cursed 2005-06 season, consistently made the playoffs. Both Rockets coaches had a way of making the most of talent-challenged rosters. Kubiak, on the other hand ...
Adelman did a lot with mediocre players but this also meant that the rebuilding we needed to do would never happen.
les hires Adelman because he isn't capable of making those decisions himself. For les to dictate what to specifically do would make him a fool.
Let's just be honest. Adelman would have squeezed more wins out of the Texans than Kubiak has. There may even be a good chance the same can be said for the next Rocket's coach.
This is the basic arguement for keep Adelman, right? He's a Hall of Fame coach who can clearly still coach in today's game. And anybody that we get to replace him wouldn't be able to do nearly as good with this group of players next year, so by not retaining Adelman we're getting worse and that makes this a bad move. It all makes logical sense. The above quote isn't about Adelman and the Rockets, though. It's taken from three years ago and was the case for the Packers to keep Brett Favre. As well all know, Favre, like Adelman, had a disconnect with the team management and was pushed out the door not due to performance, but because the team was ready to go in a different, younger direction. And sure enough, the Packers were not as good the following season and likely would have atleast competed for a playoff spot the next year had they kept Favre. Sound familiar? Packers management, though, trusted that they knew what they were doing when selecting a replacement for him, and 2 years later Aaron Rogers is lifting the Lombardi Trophy. Granted, we don't have an Aaron Rogers of coaching waiting in the wings, but Im sure there is a next great young coach out there somewhere, and Im fairly confident in our organization to find him and hire him. Might be Mike Budenholzer, might be Brad Stevens, could be anyone, but if we can find that guy and have him become the next great coach and we can have him around for the next 10-20 years, Ill gladly accept one year of taking a step back. I want the Rockets to become a force for many years to come and I don't think staying the course and competing for the 7th or 8th seed for the next two years does us much good.
Award goes to Bob "on the right track" McNair! How do you bring him back!? 5 years, no playoffs, 1 winning record, what is he thinking!?
Kubiak by miles: that was stupid beyond measure. You never, never reward failure. But it wasn't just Kubiak, a complete house cleaning was in order. Adelman is old school, in his upper sixties. He was with the wrong team IF he wants to continue coaching. Makes sense for both parties.
Too many fans know only that Adelman can bring more wins, but it's not enough. Team needs a clear strategy to win the championship, which is often necessary to temporarily sacrifice some immediate benefits. However, the coach can be only interested in winning several of the current content to the ball, which would obviously undermine the long-term management of a team.
Kubiak is trash. Fortunately for him, McNair loves him. Adelman is definitely a HOF coach, but his favoritism really hurt us. We went on a surge after Morey got rid of his favorites, and started winning with only 1 new player(Dragic, who had a very limited role before Lowry started sitting out).
We aren't contending so we don't need Adelman. The Texans are trying to contend and have some pieces to move forward, so keeping Kubiak is a mistake.
Kubiak by a mile. He's going to his 6th season when any similar coach would be canned by season 3 or 4.
