The robber was not wearing face covering. This article is about a woman who robbed a bank with a scarf covering her hair.

If you want to have any semblance of credibility in your own alleged pursuit of reducing violent fanaticism, then this thread is the best opportunity to show what you're made of.

Gas stations too? What about beards, moustaches, and glasses? They can get away with legislating this in France apparently, and probably Germany too. But, there's no way you could regulate the burqa or similar garments in the USA. It's a waste of time to discuss whether we should. It'd be buried in discrimination lawsuits.

Facial coverings such as niqab is personal business but in the case of visiting banks and gas stations, I'm not really in favor of that because it can be abused as it was in this case. Niqab supporters won't agree but it's not mandatory for Muslims anyway. Hijab should be enough for these situations. However, rulings on such propositions would cause a lot of stir especially in the US.

His article talks about a woman who was wearing a head covering. How is that a legitimate issue?

It is a debatable issue whether (pseudo-)religious "mandatory" clothing requirements (aka mobile jails) can trump public safety and security requirements in all cases.

Aside from the question whether women really wear this stuff voluntarily and aside from the question how ridiculous it is to demand that women cover their heads in the free Western world, there is a conflict between the interest of those demanding that women should run around with their faces covered and those who want to feel safe in public places, especially in places like banks where usually only bank robbers would cover their faces.

The case IzakDavid13 posted illustrates that this is a real issue.

As much as some of you guys would like to shout down anyone who even remotely questions the "right" to put women in mobile jails or to force them to cover their faces, fortunately, these issues can be discussed in the Western world.

And contrary to what some leftists posted here, it is not a given that so-called freedom of religion (so-called because it is doubtful whether it is even the free will of the person who has to cover her face or rather the will of a repressed, paternalistic male oppressor) trumps public safety and security in all cases.

    ^^This

The one thing that I don't understand is if the Hajib, niqab or Burqa is a choice, and not something forced upon women why are they arrested and/or beaten in some middle eastern countries for not wearing it?

    Just a question.

This always amuses me greatly. This little pissing contest of "I know more about it, so you cannot criticize it". That thinking is so hilariously twisted. That's like a Nazi saying I know more about the 3rd Reich, so you cannot criticize Nazis. Just stupid.
