I'm pretty sure we do, after Garcia, Hamilton, Casspi, Powell and Covington all have been cut or expired.

With this cap space and maybe another small move you can sign Lowry.

It just gets moved back a year until the pick falls in that range. Most times the protection lessens each year it is moved back.

    Woj:

Houston's front office, Gersson Rosas & Daryl Morey, have been working hard to find a home for two big contracts. They got rid of Asik tonight. Now one contract away, Lin, to have a full max contract available for LeBron or Carmelo and are convinced they'll be in the running for both guys. Whichever guy steps in can be part of a championship contender. Houston's making an immense play right now.

How crazy would it be to have a big 3... and be picking in the lottery!?

One pick to Philly in 2014, one pick to Hou in 2015...still illegal. They have to make a pick at least every other year.

Even if the rockets strike out on the big names, if they can sign Lowry with this space it would make them so much better. Remember, Asik didn't even play for about half the season last year.

Cannot be understated how huge this is. This just might be the best possible asset Minnesota could receive in a Love trade.

I brought this up on twitter. I felt Morey needed to make this move based on the trade that DAL did earlier today. I'm not saying he felt pressure but I think more along the lines of showing he means business. I think it makes it easier to have those sit down conversations with Melo and company.

Holy **** that's huge! You almost never see a pick with that little lotto protection plus back end protection as well!

Lin, Jones, Parsons, # 25 and this pick for Martin and Love?

You can't owe consecutive first round picks for future drafts. This trade won't be finalized until sometime after the 2014 draft is over. Technically it could be finalized after the 10th pick is made, which is currently in Philadelphia's hands.

    A) They couldn't possibly have done worse than losing in the first round.
    B) All the team needed to advance far this year was a functional PF and a wing defender, along with some bench help, which this trade would have provided.

Basically the only way you are correct is if the Rockets win the title next year. Even then, there's no way to know that they couldn't have traded Asik last year and still cleared enough cap space this summer to do whatever it is they're trying to do right now. And we'll never know what they could have accomplished last year had they actually tried to win playoff games.
