Interesting read. I've always thought Woj was kind of a joke. He reminds me a lot of Basketballholic. Throws out a bunch of crap and hopes something sticks to the wall -- then comes the proverbial "I told you so."

Are you talking about his opinion columns or his breaking news scoops? His scoop is the gold standard of sports reporting. If Woj doesn't report it, it's just rumor. If Woj reports it, it's fact.

His opinions are just opinions. No "I told you so" in them.

I have to agree with this...nothing wrong with hating on BSPN and their reporting. If anything, it shows Woj has some principle behind him.

That being said, can't vindicate a guy running sports pieces like a mob boss. "Comply or get crucified."

I'm talking about both. He doesn't report them as "his opinion," he reports them as league sources are telling him this, this, and that. Then he ends up flat out wrong, as in the case of Lebron or Gay.

Also, I've seen plenty of "scoops" that never come to fruition. Granted, the whole "fluid" trade talks usually covers this aspect, he still does it far more than any other reporter. Just because he has been write on many things, doesn't mean he hasn't been wrong on just as many, if not more.

I mean, I am not saying I don't enjoy the rivalry. I can't stand ESPN. If only because they always seem to ignore us, or show us next in the highlight reel, only to go to commercial and then start with a new reel.

I just don't think Woj is trustworthy. He throws out too much crap to make up for his facts. I still enjoy the rivalry, and still enjoy the rumors he throws out, if only because they keep the regular season interesting.

A couple years ago we talked about how much Woj hates ESPN... he loathes them, and I kind of like that. I'm not much of an ESPN fan at all.

    http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=217073

That's from a couple years ago when Grantland/ESPN tried to make him look bad without ever mentioning his name.

This new article is definitely a takedown piece motivated by some who want it out there, but there were a couple things I at least found interesting, like the Joe Dumars stuff. But Woj is the very best and he has changed the industry, taking a lot of breaking stories that otherwise would have gone to those covering the team beats. That has pissed some people off.

I would argue the framing job done by 99% of the media is why Woj gets that rep. When most national guys do columns, they end up as softballs. They rarely take a hard line stance because they're so afraid of pissing off their sources and/or losing their access. I actually think Woj is a great and honest column writer, but his pieces do stand out as "dramatic" compared to many of his peers... who allow PR from teams or the league to temper what they say.

Anyway, it seems the consensus opinion here matches mine... this is a hit piece from a jealous writer. The LeBron stuff is pulled completely out of context. For example, the writer characterizes Woj's February column (on Cavs' blowing their shot at LeBron) as a swing-and-miss... uh, exactly who was predicting LeBron to Cleveland in February? Pretty sure no one was, and I'd bet big money that even LeBron himself wasn't considering it at that point. Circumstances change. Unless there's contextual evidence of other reporters getting it right, I don't see how it's a huge indictment of Woj.

Same thing with all Woj's anti-LeBron pieces the writer referenced from 2008 through 2011. I think LeBron himself would be the first to acknowledge that he's evolved as a person and player since then. Note how easy he forgave Dan Gilbert this summer, admitting they both could've done things differently back then. Fact is, LeBron was immature at one point. He was a questionable leader. He's grown a lot since then and is a much better leader today... but you can't invalidate Woj's 2009 opinion of LeBron based on what the circumstances are in late 2014. Uh, things have changed.

And it's not like Woj has run from the New LeBron... actually, it's quite the contrary. He's written numerous columns with flowery praise for James (such as this one: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nba--b...-with-help-from-gracious-spurs-080537235.html) over the past two years. The author just chose to leave out that context because it doesn't fit his pre-determined narrative.

I think it would be awesome to see the Woj rebuttal. Would probably be a premature time for him to reveal his cards though.

espn is utter crap. for those of us who remember classy nba coverage on cbs and nbc, having to endure the bastardization of the game by espn is quite painful.

If I have any memory of Woj at all in the future it will be his accurate tweets and never any article. I will have to hand it to him that the only reason I would ever read anything of his at all it will be because of his accurate tweets.

Want to beat Woj? Get the scoop first.

NBA on NBC was the best. I knew it would be going downhill when NBA coverage was sold to ABC/ESPN.

For anyone who do not support Woj's war, I present to you Mark Stein from ESPN

Woj may write hit pieces, but at least he doesn't make up ***** like this.

I would think most all the reporters do this. What other incentive is there for a source to give a reporter information? It's quid pro quo whether its Woj or ESPN. The teams use the reporters as much as the reporters use the teams.

ESPN has reached an agreement with columnist Kevin Draper, according to a source.
