The Washington Wizards, Memphis Grizzlies and New Orleans Hornets have agreed to a three-team trade that will bring two new guards to the Gilbert Arenas-less Wizards, according to NBA front-office sources.

The Wizards will receive New Orleans' Mike James and Memphis' Javaris Crittenton in the exchange, with the Hornets acquiring Washington's Antonio Daniels and the Grizzlies coming away with a future first-round pick.

Arenas has yet to play for the Wizards since signing a new $111 million contract in the offseason after undergoing surgery on his left knee. A firm timetable for Arenas' comeback has not been established, but he has yet to be cleared to participate in contact drills, making a return by Jan. 1 -- as Arenas initially hoped -- seem unlikely.

The Washington Post reported Wednesday morning that the pick is a conditional first-rounder that Memphis had sent to Washington in the trade to acquire Spanish guard Juan Carlos Navarro in the 2007 offseason. Navarro returned to club power FC Barcelona in his native country this season.

The Wizards have to release guard Dee Brown to make roster room for their new players.

According to the Post, Daniels was at Wizards practice but was pulled off the floor once the deal proceeded to the conference-call stage required for league approval.

The Grizzlies had been expected to part with at least one point guard this season after stockpiling several. Crittenton, taken 19th overall by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2007 draft, arrived in Memphis in February as part of the Pau Gasol deal.

James had fallen out of favor in New Orleans under coach Byron Scott and hadn't played in nine of the Hornets' past 10 games. Daniels, who has been a fixture on Washington's playoff teams over the past three seasons, is averaging 5.1 points, 3.6 assists and 22.4 minutes in 13 games.

mike james not working out somewhere? what a shocker

hopefully critteton can get some minutes in washington...he never really got much run in LA early last year as a rookie and then none in memphis but the kid can play.

daniels for james essentially? thats a great deal for NO

Mike James might set a record for most team jerseys in a career.

So Griz manage to get a lesser Gasol + first round (possibly a late pick becase WAS will likely make the playoff IMO) for the real Gasol?

WTF, who's running the show in Memphis, is he freaking r****ded?

I don't get it...why does NOK always try to find a backup point? Wouldn't that be like their last area of concern? :/

It is like the Suns as well, those guys need about 8-10 minutes rest every game............

You need someone that won't sink the ship when the main PG goes out......

they actually made a good deal. I don't know how you're judging a trade when you clearly know nothing about it..

the Grizz got Marc Gasol, a 1st rnd pick (for Crittenton just now), 2 1st rnd picks from the Lakers, cap room from Aaron McKie's contract that is already off the books, and more cap room from Kwame Brown's contract that is already gone.

Considering how much Pau was making and the fact that the Grizz were going nowhere...the fact that Marc looks solid.. I'd say getting 3 1st round picks, a good amount of cap space, and a starting PF/C is pretty damn good.

Crittenton was expendable because of Conley/Lowry/Mayo (if they move Mayo over to PG some)

Paul missed a good chunk of games before.. and he does take his share of hits inside cause he drives a lot. Pargo was huge for them last year.. I thought it was a big mistake for them to let him go and assume Mike James could handle the backup job.

If Daniels can regain form, I think this could be really big for them. Regardless, he's an upgrade over James just b/c he doesn't hog the damn ball..

Agreed on all counts.. hope James rides the pine..but maybe they wanted a ball hog since Arenas is still out.. ha

Daniels really needs to come back to what he was before this year though.. hopefully it's just been injuries holding him back and not a decline

The Wizards team locker room is already having problems. Imagine adding Mike James to it

Why not try researching the trade before you call someone r****ded. If you really think that Memphis only got Marc and a 1st, maybe you are r****ded.

It's hard to understand what the Wizards are thinking for getting Mike James. Weird!

They had Devin Brown being the backup PG. He is nothing like a pg.

he is off the books in 2010.. maybe they wanted that space, or they hope to flip him to a team who wants contracts off in 2010 since so many teams do?

    Wizards lost; got chem killer
Hornets won; dumped chem killer, got veteran PG
Grizzlies won big; 1st round pick > scrubs

Correct. This season for the Wizard is a lost cause. Best case scenario for them is to get a top 3 pick like they should. Hope Gilbert comes back fully healthy and sign some good help.

They obviously want to win now because they just threw away a pick and picked up two guards with one of them paid at (or more than?) MLE. what a smart move!

no.. they traded a pick for cap flexibility at the right time and a 2nd year guard who is projected to be a very good PG (i.e. prospect...which is similar to a pick).

And maybe they think they can flip James with his '10 expiring deal for more than the pick they lost...or at least the same value.

AND yes, Crittenton + James is an upgrade short-term over Daniels and Dee Brown.. Dee Brown was starting on this damn team..unbelievable. (until arenas gets back to full strength.. then James is wayyy out of the rotation even if he's stil around)

If Antonio Daniels isn't completely washed up, the Hornets did very well. At least they dumped fruitcake Mike James.
