For a little off-season pondering, I thought I'd make a list of notable players that I think that the Texans will at least consider parting ways with. This includes all the Free Agents that get playing time, as well as others who might be valuable trade pieces, or cuttable. Who should the Texans try to keep, and under what circumstances do you keep them?

QB - Sage Rosenfels (Potential trade)
RB - Ahman Green (Unlikely trade, possible money-saving cut)
    Ron Dayne (UFA)
    WR - Andre Davis (UFA)
    Jerome Mathis (RFA)
    OL - Fred Weary (UFA)
DL - Travis Johnson (Cut for being a knucklehead, unlikely trade)
    Anthony Weaver (Potential trade?)
    N.D. Kalu (UFA)
    Anthony Maddox (RFA)
    LB - Danny Clark (UFA)
    DB - Glenn Earl (UFA)
    Von Hutchins (UFA)
    Will Demps (UFA)
    C.C. Brown (RFA)

Feel free to add others that you think the Texans might consider letting go.

Greenwood & Weaver need to have their contracts restructured if they're going to stay. I don't see the need to bring Green back.

The rest (outside of Sage, who's needed as insurance) provide good depth but seem replacable to me. Love to see Andre Davis back, though.

That's enough of the trading Rosenfels talk. It's just dumb.

I definitely wouldn't trade Sage, unless somebody made an offer I couldn't refuse, like a first day draft pick.

    Get rid of Ahman Green.

Keep Sage and Dayne for sure, they are great insurance.

Sign Andre Davis, Von Hutchins, and Will Demps as long as the price is reasonable.

Ahman Green - Damaged goods. Draft a RB and let's move towards the future.
Jerome Mathis - This guy is softer than Tracy McGrady. Way too much trouble for a one-trick pony. Especially when Andre Davis can do the same thing - AND start at WR.
Anthony Weaver - This guy is garbage and has given us nothing on the DL during his Texan tenure.

EDIT: Just checked Weaver’s stats. He has exactly ONE sack in his entire two year Texans tenure. And that’s from the DE position opposite Mario. We can do better than that.

Don't move Sage unless it's at least a low 1st or we have another season to see if Schaub can play 16.

I wouldn't want bot Kalu and Travis Johnson gone - D-line depth was a major factor for us this year. Johnson may be a numbnut, but he had several strong games for us last year.

I think Green is an obvious cut.

I'd like Earl, Demps, and Von Hutchins back, but would be happy to see CC Brown and his no-IQ safety play leave. It's paramount that we get someone with football sense in the deep backfield.

    Keep Davis, ditch Mathis.

Don't care either way with Weary.

Travis Johnson has to go becuase he is a straight up bust at this point. He has like 1 career sack or something. Plus 4-5 personal fouls in a single season.

Weaver and Mathis are useless as well.

Ahman Green - The guy is done and can no longer be a feature back on a team trying to make the playoffs for the first time. I would try to trade him or just let him go and move on with a younger RB and start over fresh. This year's draft is pretty good for RBs and a guy like Ray Rice or Felix Jones would be a very good addition.

    They won't cut A. Green.

    1. Most teams run a two back system.
    2. With all the injuries at RB we have had for 2 years and all over the league last year, they will keep him as insurance and still draft a RB in the draft.

    A. Green may not be able to be a feature back, but to be one of a 2-, 3-RB rotation could work. Plus he was a great back at one time and could help the new Rookie with things from before he (AG) became injury prone.

    Keep:
    QB - Sage Rosenfels (Duh)

    N.D. Kalu (good rotation player)
    RB - Ahman Green (above)
Ron Dayne (Cheap, serviceable, good team player)
OL - Fred Weary (I've heard differing opinions on what Gibbs take will be, but I don't think we can replace most of the line in one year)
    Will Demps (UFA)

    Possibly:
DL - Travis Johnson (He played much better at the end of the year, but if find a better player somewhere, cut him)
Anthony Weaver (Potential trade if he is worth anything? doubt it though)
C.C. Brown (if find a better player)
    DB - Glenn Earl (same)
DT - Anthony Maddox (didn't like his motor)
LB - Danny Clark (Should be able to find a good young LB in draft)

    Cut/Trade:
    Jerome Mathis (too injured)
WR - Andre Davis (UFA) (if he wants too much money)
Von Hutchins (Draft a stud CB!!! and Sign Lay from the Patriots)
    Faggins (no questions)

    Keep
QB - Sage Rosenfels (our best QB)
DL - Travis Johnson (league average DT, finally)
DL - Anthony Weaver (not starter quality but a reasonable backup)

    Resign whatever the price
OL - Fred Weary (UFA, best OL)
WR - Andre Davis (UFA, love his speed)

Resign if the price is right
RB - Ron Dayne (UFA, good short yardage back)
DB - Will Demps (UFA, great hitter)
    DL - N.D. Kalu (UFA)
    DL - Anthony Maddox (RFA)
    LB - Danny Clark (UFA)
    DB - Glenn Earl (UFA)
    DB- Von Hutchins (UFA)
    DB - C.C. Brown (RFA)

Trade if the price is right
QB - Matt Schaub (get back those draft picks!!!)

    Cut
RB - Ahman Green (why pay for one more season of IR?)

    Do not resign
Jerome Mathis (RFA, too injury prone, time to move on)

We traded those draft picks for a reason, though. Not only that, but after the season that Schaub had, I really don't think anybody is going to repay us 100% value for him. At this point, Schaub is worth a lot more to us in a Texan uniform than out of one. Plus, there is a reason why Rosenfels has yet to really earn a starting job in the NFL. He makes a lot of mistakes (interceptions, fumbling after holding on to the ball for too long) that I really think would be compounded over the course of a full year.
