After this game, I don't think I can no longer relax even with a 20+ pt lead going into the 4th quarter. Good thing is we won it at the end and that its a wake up call to the players that no lead is a safe lead with 1 qtr still to go.

if we could hit our avg from three, make our freebies, rebound and cut the t.os by 2, we'd be unbeetabol.

In all seriousness, probably 20-ish. Games like this are a rarity. But the Rox are notorious for 4th quarter collapses. No matter who the coach is, no matter who the players are any given year, it's a part of life.

But 98 times out of 100 a 20+ point lead going into the 4th will be enough.

The Rockets have blown some pretty big leads this year. With their tendency to commit turnovers and their poor free throw shooting I'm not sure any lead is safe.

If history is any indication, 50 is about right. According to NBA.COM:

    Most points, first quarter
    50 - Syracuse at San Francisco, December 16, 1962
    50 - Boston vs. Denver, February 5, 1982
    50 - Utah vs. Denver, April 10, 1982
    50 - Milwaukee vs. Orlando, November 16, 1989
    50 - Phoenix vs. Denver, November 10, 1990

    Most points, second quarter
    57 - Phoenix vs. Denver, November 10, 1990

    Most points, third quarter
    57 - Golden State vs. Sacramento, March 4, 1989

    Most points, fourth quarter
    58 - Buffalo at Boston, October 20, 1972

Going into the 4th quarter? NO lead is safe.

Just a few days ago, the Spurs held a 12p lead with less than 2 minutes left against a Gasoline-less Memphis, but lost them all in less than 100 seconds and had to win in OT.

A LOT can happen in 12 minutes. If we can't sustain our focus and energy for 48 minutes, no lead is ever safe.

Obviously I was referring to Marc Gasol, not Gasoline.

I remember when Rockets blew a giant lead in the 4th quarter against the Bulls when the Bulls were good and Rose hit a gamewinning 3. Also that Mavs game earlier this season.

We have already proven that below 20 points is NEVER safe heading into the last quarter.

Any team that needs 31 points+ going into the last quarter should not be playing in the NBA!

Then again LeBron and Durant might team up and drop 50 in the last quarter combined.
