With OKC getting Melo, are we even a top 4 seed in the West?

Discussion in 'Houston Rockets: Game Action & Roster Moves' started by swyyyguy, Sep 23, 2017.

?

Are we now the 4th seed or the 5th seed in the West?

  1. 4th seed, barely.

    73.0%
  2. 5th seed, no more home court advantage.

    27.0%

What is playing it safe? Not trading both Ariza and Gordon?? Cuz that is literally the only way we may have gotten him. This trade didn't hinge on any of our draft picks.

we were 3rd seed last season too. and i wouldn't just overlook SAS or even MIN. we have to hope to avoid any key injuries this season, because anything short of WCF and CP3 is gone next july

    I completely forgot about Minnesota

Ya boys we might just be 4-5th seed unless Harden comes back as the step back king and capela finally becomes a man. Also need Gordon to stay healthy

Vegas odds still have the Rockets ahead of the Thunder. Your entire premise is #FakeNews

The Rockets were 2nd best in the West before Melo went to the Thunder, they'd have still been 2nd best in the West if Melo came here, and they are still the 2nd best in the West now that Melo went to the Thunder.

Seriously, people need to get a hold on themselves, Melo would have been a bit of an upgrade over Anderson, but he was never going to be a difference maker.....and the Thunder are still a prime candidate for a mid-season fire-sale once they realize that no one is sticking around long term and that a complete rebuild is about to happen.

Our big three is Paul, Harden and Gordon. After that we have good role players.

you know the refs will be looking to make a name for themselves by targeting james harden, even if harden really was fouled. Just so they can discuss controversy on ESPN. And it can make news. Yea we'll lose a few games due to this rule, but not because they made the right call

I don't believe their better. Their chemistry has to click. Too many ball dominant guys.

For reals. I'm a Blazers fan and I have a better outlook for your ream than this guy.

I like to look at it in tiers. My current thoughts:

    Tier 1 - Warriors
Tier 2 - Houston, San Antonio, OKC.
Tier 3 - Minnesota, Portland, Denver, Utah, LAC
    Tier 4 - Everyone else

In that second tier, there is NO way to definitively say who will finish with the best record. I have them all relatively equal. Injuries or lack thereof will probably be the difference maker.

So at best, you guys are 2nd seed. At absolute worst is 4th seed, and that is with the caveat that you would only be a game or so behind the other teams. So, no big deal either way.

Are the Spurs "clearly" better than us? Roster wise, I don't think so. Gasol, Parker (out till when?), Manu are another year older. The Pop effect can't overcome their physical deficiencies. Lost Simmons too.

Is OKC necessarily better than us? Is Melo significantly better than Gordon at this stage of his career? It's easier to see the solid additions of a Moute and Tucker plus the big addition of Chris Paul with his overall basketball intelligence and all around solid game at a HOF level, meshing better than a top heavy Thunder squad.

Sure they should improve, but so should we. And we handled them fairly easily last year in the playoffs.
