1,100 former Justice Officials (Reps and Dems) signed a letter saying Barr should resign: https://www.npr.org/2020/02/16/8065...barr-to-resign-after-intervening-in-stone-cas It's incredible number that makes you wonder - my god, the deep state is DEEEEEP! Basically everyone in gov't that is not loyal to Trump must be an enemy of the state, right?
Trump should demote Barr to an "acting" attorney general for criticizing the crook in chief. Congress is finished in terms of public trust. Now it's the justice dept and judicial branch's turn to lose credibility. In four years, Trump can challenge the constitution a la Putin. His Russian handlers must be feeding him an effective script. All the adults in the room are gone and now "acting" officers with no repute/authority are schilling their way forward into the decline of our 'roman' empire by division, reality tv entertainment & bullying of political opponents. There is no way that GOP can recoup their morality/accountability brand after Trump, so they will be going down with him to the last - and so there is no way that Barr resigns. He played the game to criticize Trump to save some face for closeted Trumpers (GOP). Nobody is saying that what he did is illegal. Norms are meant to be broken when Trump is in charge. To his base this is just draining the swamp. #debbie_downer_out
You know, I've never obtained an answer from a Trumper or a I-didn't-vote-for-him-but-er: who has had any significant dealing with Trump, in his 70 years, who has not been negatively affected by the association? I can't find one single example. Oh well.
Jack Goldsmith, a contributor to Lawfare and a conservative lawyer and Harvard law professor, believes barr has contributed to the "politicization" of the justice department, but he argues that he shouldn't resign/get forced out because trump could/would appoint and even worse "acting" AG. Someone worse... hard to believe. But what does that say as the defense of anyone in trump's admin or cabinet... their best defense is "trump could choose someone even worse." Should Attorney General Barr Resign? He has helped create the perception that the Justice Department is politicized. https://thedispatch.com/p/should-at...mpaign=post&utm_medium=web&utm_source=twitter
Looking back at this point in twenty years, it might be the point when GOP descend into irrelevance start.
Yes William Barr should resign or an investigation launched. He thinks he represents the President and not the American people. The best outcome is that Trump loses in 2020 and we have more mild scandals from the next President. Although if Bloomberg wins he is far brighter than Trump so he likely would make sure his dirty dealings are actually covered up properly. If you are going to cheat, at least be professional about it..... don't insult our intelligence.
I love the trump ratchet theory: if you intervene, or if you remove a piece, it will only get worse or more corrupt with what comes next. I’m not saying that’s wrong, but it’s one of his many insidious survival strategies. we already miss sessions, mattis and others. Just imagine a second term, with reality tv sycophants appointed to interim cabinet positions. SMDH
Federal judges' association calls emergency meeting after DOJ intervenes in case of Trump ally Roger Stone https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2020/02/17/roger-stone-sentence-judges-worried-political-interference/4788155002 A national association of federal judges has called an emergency meeting Tuesday to address growing concerns about the intervention of Justice Department officials and President Donald Trump in politically sensitive cases, the group’s president said Monday. Philadelphia U.S. District Judge Cynthia Rufe, who heads the independent Federal Judges Association, said the group “could not wait” until its spring conference to weigh in on a deepening crisis that has enveloped the Justice Department and Attorney General William Barr. “There are plenty of issues that we are concerned about,” Rufe told USA TODAY. “We’ll talk all of this through.” Rufe, nominated to the bench by President George W. Bush, said the group of more than 1,000 federal jurists called for the meeting last week after Trump criticizedprosecutors' initial sentencing recommendation for his friend Roger Stone and the Department of Justice overruled them.
As long as the economy is good, voters won't care. Seperation of powers, rule of law etc are too abstract for the average person
The economy is good based on tradional GDP growth numbers. Some economists are trying to decouple the notion of gdp growth with "economic health" especially when it comes to things like wages and standard of living. Currently wages are barely increasing when accounting for cost of living while consumer debt are breaking record highs. Our current growth is just being fueled by consumer debt.
He doesn’t care about insulting our intelligence. It’s all right out in the open. His cult doesn’t care.
