Will the Texans Draft a QB This Year?

Discussion in 'Houston Texans' started by ima_drummer2k, Apr 21, 2017.

?

What round (if any) will the Texans draft a QB this year?

  1. 1st round - we'll finally go all in via the draft

    42.1%
  2. 2nd or 3rd round - we'll pass on the 1st round and hope our guy drops

    44.7%
  3. 4th thru 7th round - we'll draft another project to be the next Savage, Yates, Brink, Symons, etc.

    10.5%
  4. not at all - we'll roll the dice once again on the FA scrapheap

    2.6%

I say we'll draft someone on day 2 to be our next project and then roll with Savage.

I think the "we'll draft another project to be the next Savage, Yates, Brink, Symons, etc." part could go at the end of any pick in rounds 1-7

    The Bill O'Brien 2017 timeline:

    After Romo retired:
"We believe Tom can lead this team."

    After the draft:
"No we weren't taking a QB in round 1, we know we have our quarterback, Tom Savage is ready."

    After week 4
"Stop asking questions about Tom. He is our starter, he knows he has to play better."

    After week 12
"We have complete confidence in Brandon behind center. He is ready for the challenge."

After losing in the first round
"Do I regret not drafting a QB? It doesn't matter Brian. 9-7, AFC South Champions Brian."

What's funny is you guys act like not picking a qb early is automatic doom. We pick one in the first and(when) he flames out you'll all be at the front doors of NRG to crucify Rick Smith. You pick one in the 4th or 5th and he flames out no big deal. If he's a steal we've finally made it to the promise land while still using our 1st on a quality player. I'm telling you the drop off of talent from "round 1" qbs to round 5 is not steep. Some of you just want them to pick one in the first just for the hell of it, not caring this is the worst qb draft since I've been alive. You gotta look at risk reward people. It's just not smart to pick a 4th round grade qb(in any other year) in the first because you want one, while the defensive players look like potential legends. Waiting one more year to get our guy will not kill anyone. Waiting until the weakest qb draft to finally pull the trigger is more stupid than them waiting this long in the first place. That transcript could look just as identical with a rookie qb bust.

You just have to know by now that some "Texans fans" just live to b**** about the team.....even when the team does what they say they want them to do. They'll run down any accomplishment and play up any failure.

It's just how they are. At some point you just start to tune them out.

If I were running the team, I would pray that Mahomes drops. There's a decent chance of that. If he does not, I'd wait and grab Dobbs in the third.

If Mahomes isn't available, I'd get TJ Watt. We need an OLB more than some seem to think, and TJ is an upgrade over Simon with insane potential.

Then, in the second, I'd go best tackle available. In the third, I'd grab a corner or Dobbs. In the fourth, get James Conner. Fourth round, second pick, I'd get a safety. Then oline the rest of the way.

Look for either Peterman in round 2 or Evans round 4

They don't have a QB so they kinda are already doomed. ;)

    Fine, limited ceiling.

And when he succeeds, all the credit to Billy O'Byran, not Rick! :p Yes, fans will crucify Rick but it doesn't matter, Rick's job will be safe.

    Draft another Tom Savage?

No need to take one for the sake of taking one but if Bill (not Bob or Rick) likes one, go for it.

Think I already said I'm leaning towards OT. They need an OT, no matter who's back there at QB. Savage, Romo, Weeden, draft pick, whoever.

The ol' "This year's class sucks, just wait 'til next year."

Fans always do this. Current year's class sucks, next year's class is amazing so wait. Then we roll around to the next year, said amazing class is then put under the microscope & dissected and it's suddenly not so "amazing" so we should wait again until next year when that class is amazing. Rinse & repeat.

    Welp I ****ed that up...

But anyways JR. taking a qb in the fourth doesn't necessarily mean another Savage it could be the next Dak. And doesn't really matter if BOB likes someone it's still reaching because we'd be missing out on superior defensive talent.

I would say "No" to drafting a QB in the 1st round.

1)These projected 1st round QB's are from the "Air-Raid" systems or "Read-option" schemes.

    2) Houston offense is too difficult

3)O'Brien may be coaching his last year. He is not training a 2 to 3 yr project when the next coach will
come in and want his guy (new toy fresh out of the box).

    4) Speaking of next years QB class..........Rosen/Falk/Litton are much better than this class. To me
the only flaw Litton has is recognizing sooner that his receiver has his man beat by 2 or 3 steps on
deep passes 30+ yds. Too often I saw his receiver waiting for the ball 40 or 50 yds deep. He will
fix that over the college season & be the total package.

5)Draft Peterman as a safety net 3rd stringer to possible 2nd stringer. Cheaper than free agent pickup.

    6) If missing out on Peterman, I can see O'Brien going after free agent Fitzpatrick (familiar with the system).
Long shot Kaepernick or Cutler. Trade for Keenum or TJ Yates. Ponder or Gabbert are listed as free agents
    by Spotrac.

We already have superior defensive talent on the team.

You guys keep saying next year's class is better yet they were all unheard of during this past scouting session. Everyone was talking about this class even before the season was over. Please stop talking about guys that no one else is or has been talking about.

0% chance that the Texans draft a QB in the first round. There will not be a QB worth taking where the Texans are drafting. This is a weak QB class so trading up will not be a smart move.

50% chance that the Texans draft a QB in the second or third round. They have likely identified their QB targets in these rounds and will draft a QB if available.

0% chance of the Texans drafting a QB after the third round, since I do not see the Texans wasting a pick on a player that will have such low percentage chance of developing.

FA QB scrap heap should have plenty of options for the second or third QB in the Texans depth chart.

The 2002 QB class was worse.
