Is it possi le to send him to phoenix with NOP 1st as part of Dragic deal next month? Aside from the nonPC aspect of Morey looking like a manipulator of players again? Really want to develop Donatas as a rocket for the next 3-4 years
Dwight wouldn't like that. Look how much he pouted when daniels was traded. Imagine if his best friend was traded.
Being the starter PF was his ultimatum, but the irony is that even though that makes him look like "the man", he would actually be "the man" or command more shot taking from off the bench. (Josh Smith with a 6th man green light to shoot would be horrible.) And D-Mo would command more shot-taking from the bench than from sharing shots with Harden, Howard, and Ariza in the starting 5. This is excellent. Playing with the starting will keep Smith in check. 1st & 2nd options are H & H obviously. Ariza would be 3rd option. Smith would be 4th option. Also we can get lots of good P&R action with Harden and Smith. Also all the attention H&H gets from the D, Smith's buckets will be that much easier, and his efficiency issue will greatly improve I think. Another benefit, Smith is a great passer, and I think he and Howard will have great passing between the 2 of them to whoever has the open dunk. So then D-Mo can be #1 option on offense fort the bench unit. We get to maximize his low-post touches, which have been money. Also Pap is our best passer into the low post, so he can feed D-Mo. I bet Shved will break into the rotation too, and if that happened, he is also an excellent passer into the low post. Euro guys grow up feeding the post. Watch any NCAA game, and you'll see low post passing it's virtually extinct. The tricky part will be working out the rotation logistics for Howard Smith D-Mo. Obviously D-Mo can't back up Howard and Smith at the same time. Start Smith & Howard, then go D-Mo&Howard, then D-Mo&Smith, then back to Smith & Howard. Still need to consider quarter changes, that playtime minute brackets are long enough and they don't get divided by quarter changes.
You can have a 3 man rotation at the PF and Center spot - 32mpg each are available. I worry about TJo though, when he comes back and what happens to Pappa now - Dleague? DD
If that's the deal it took to get him to sign on the line, hell yeah. This is a gift from the basketball gods, take away Jones but Smith falls into the spot. That's unheard of. I can see Smith and Howard taking a great pride in owning the paint. They might be the new Bruise Brothers. You've got Brewer to play with Dmo now, I think he can make the passes in to the post. We'll play a 3 man rotation at the 4&5 in the playoffs, they will all get minutes. Teams stacked. (if Smith is not the guy Stan Van cut and paid through the nose to be rid of)
I know. Sometimes guys just don't fit. Like Kobe in the NBA. We'll see how well Smith survives with the WC big men. How much of his transition game will be required in playoffs. On top of that he's a horrible shot. Of course, it's a good signing for the price, but we shouldn't be held hostage cuz of it.
He should start for sure. He isn't the type of player who will help the bench. With Dmo on the bench as the 6th man, he can play the 5 and 4 and be a solid, reliable scoring option with the second unit.
This. JSmith can play his natural position on offense, with being able to guard multiple positions. Our starting lineup will be a beast on D and a beast in transition. Ideally, having DMo back up Dwight and playing the 4 will keep Dwight's minutes down. Also, I'd expect to see a little bit of Brewer at the 4 off the bench.
That "douche" has earned the right to sign his name whether you agree with him or not, noob. Where oh where is out negative rep button when we need it?
Unless the 2nd unit includes Pap, Shved and Brewer. All are very good post entry passers. Canaan and Terry, not so much.
Smith will start, but if we don't win it's going to become a delicate situation as to when to bench him. With this move and the Brewer move we have bought ourselves the ability to change the lineup regularly in order to develop players, rest players, experiment with lineups etc.
1. Our defense is great with current starting 5, why should we change anything? 2. Smith won't work as much as Motiejunas offensively to set up teammates, especially setting picks. Our offense will look stagnant without it. 3. He should earn it first, like every other non-star player. 4. He will better fit with backups because he's the type of player who need plays called for him. With starters, he won't get any. Stupid signing overall, I'm the biggest hater of this move. He does not fit at all. Can we trade his arse to Suns with Shved for Dragic?
