that nobody has 3 NBA championship, a Olympic Gold and Bronze, a multiple time all star, NBA 6th man and a former All NBA 3rd team, not shabby for a nobody
They have an effective system. Even though their top guys will retire, they can and will still be competing for the playoffs. Much respect for the Spurs.
Spurs have a solid core of veterans: Parker, Duncan, Ginobili. Who provide mentorship for their younger players: Dejuan Blair, Nando De Colo, Tiago Splitter, Kawai Leonard, Danny Green. Having veteran mentors is the key to developing rookies, and far more effective than the D-League. Spurs have a system, and everyone has bought into the system. They also find good draft picks at the bottom of the 1st and 2nd rounds. I don't know what their secret is to drafting players, but I'm guessing it's just good scouting and drafting based on need rather than hype.
Duncan has what, 2 good years left? I imagine he sits out next year, they get the 1st overall pick, and they win the title in 2015 then build seamlessly around thier #1 tank pick. It's what they do.
Its funny that some of you say when Duncan and Ginobli retire and etc... They play without their star players from time to time against elite competition and stay relevant in the games.. Also Duncan was hurt a few weeks back and they won games without him and Ginobli. Its the coach.
The system is awesome. They do need a big man for when Duncan eventually retires but I have faith in the organization in finding someone else. They have been amazing at developing raw talent and letting players know and find their niche in the NBA.
Not really.... 1987 they got Robinson.... 1997 they got Duncan 2007-2013 .... they did not have one in more than a decade They might get a Top 5 pick down the line tho if they tank
It all depends on who comes out. Once Duncan retires, I think they'll tank for a season or two then rebuild with diamonds in the rough. Once Pop and Buford are gone though, they'll be in trouble.
Manu and Duncan are nearing the end, without them the Spurs will be very ordinary. Tony Parker is playing better than he ever has before, but he has a lot of games on his legs and so much of his game is based on quickness. Leonard, Splitter etc are all nice role players. However, without an elite post player they will be very beatable. Right now the Spurs are championship contenders. They play the fast/slow game about as well as anyone ever. Right now they have arguably the best point guard in the NBA (not Kyrie) and a top 5-10 player they can ride in the playoffs. Other than Miami and OKC they have the best shot to take home the hardware.
Very doubtful and arguable. The Allstar MVP wants to have a word with you. Russ WB is not far behind... IMO is the most athletic PG in a while after the injury to Rose
CP3 is clearly the number 1 PG in the NBA IMO. Irving, Westbrook, Parker all fighting for number 2 right now. I would personally go Parker, Westbrook, Irving for now even though I expect Kyrie to be the best in 1-2 years.
the Spurs will never suck as long as Pop and Buford are at the helm. remember how they still manage to win games in spite of resting the uninjured/healthy big three? (and i think that was even w/out Leonard too) they manage to find talent wherever they are picking in the draft and they always develop their guys well the coaching is unbelievable, makes the most of what it has and is always very competitive btw, what has happened to DaJuan Blair? that guy can be a beast.
