Quick Question: considering he lost a few years of baseball by not starting his career in the major leagues, how would you rate his chances of making it into the hall? Assuming that his numbers aren't gaudy as they could be and he may or may not get to 3000 hits, which, had he played his first 4 or 5 seasons in the majors he'd already have 3000 hits. My opinion is Suzuki is and has been the best leadoff hitter since Pete Rose, and he might even be a step above Rose.
Even though he is not having an Ichiro-type year, he will make the HOF. I do believe if it wasn't for him playing in Japan his first 6+ years he would be challenging the hit king and already have 3k hits. His career BA is .328! Also, people tend to forget his gold gloves (one for every year in the league) in RF. IMO, he is the best all-around leadoff hitters to ever play the game.
My favorite ichiro play is when threw a laser from outfield to third base and Terrence long was so surprised about it.
He could have retired the season after he broke the single season hits mark and he'd still be a shoe-in.
Yes. No question about it. The biggest thing going for him is that it's the Baseball Hall of Fame, not the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame. His Japanese career will be factored in. It won't carry as much weight as his years in the MLB, of course, but it will be part of the equation.
Eh...lol...I mean the HOF isn't controlled by MLB, but for all intents and purposes it is the MLB HOF. They don't induct college players or coaches. The only real exceptions to MLB players are players who were excluded. (Negro leagues) As to Ichiro, of course, easy first ballot HOF. He's still overrated though.
You can't be serious. 10× MLB All-Star selection (2001–2010) 10× MLB Gold Glove Award winner (2001–2010) 3× MLB Silver Slugger Award winner (2001, 2007, 2009) 2× MLB Batting Champion (2001, 2004) 7× MLB Hits leader (2001, 2004, 2006–2010) 3× Fielding Bible Award (2006, 2009–2010) 2001 AL MVP 2001 AL Rookie of the Year 2001 AL Outstanding Rookie Players Choice Award 2001 AL Stolen Base Champion 2004 AL Outstanding Player Players Choice Award 2005 Commissioner's Historic Achievement Award 2005 Defensive Player Of The Year (MLB.com This Year in Baseball Awards) 2007 MLB All-Star Game MVP 2010 Dependable Player Of The Year (MLB.com This Year in Baseball Awards) Single-season MLB record with 262 hits (2004) 10 Total Seasons of 200 or more hits (shares MLB record) 10 Consecutive Seasons of 200 or more hits (MLB record) 10 Consecutive Seasons of .300+ batting average AL Record Consecutive Stolen Bases (45)
There is absolutely no doubt about it. 10 consecutive years with over 200 hits a season and the single season hit king. George Sisler had the record for 84 years before Ichiro broke it; that's how hard it is... Unless he's betting on baseball or juicing, Ichiro is a shoe in...
