This course is 500 yards longer than any course she has played on the LPGA. I don't think she will make the cut, but I will be happy for her is she does. She will have to have a magic putter to get this done.
+1 over two rounds? I think that's highly unlikely. Even remembering that this is one of the shortest courses on the tour.
This is interesting... Annika Sorenstam Wins 300-1 Will Annika Sorenstam Make the Cut? ----------------------------------- Yes +300 +300 No -400 -400 Annika Sorenstam's 1st Round Colonial Score ------------------------------------------- Over 76 -125 -125 Under 76 +105 +105
Wow, the over/under is 76??? Those guys risking their cash on this question know alot more about this subject than we do. She is not making the cut.
She is the best golfer on the LPGA and regularly shoots under par. She has a wicked short game and with the course playing wet she will be able to fire at the pins instead of playing safe. If she plays her game, and does not let the media excess rattle her she has a great chance of shooting par. I respect your opinion but what makes you think that all of a sudden she will turn into a bogey golfer?
Your first mistake is respecting my opinion! I've watched very little LPGA. Her short game will be put under pressure, because it won't be as short as if she was playing on the women's tour. I have no desire to see her do badly, but I don't think women's golf has much to gain from this. If she does poorly, people will say, "See, we told you the girls shouldn't play with the boys". If she does well, people will say (like I did) "Yeah well, it's a short course, the women wouldn't be able to play with the men full-time". We'll see. Whatever happens, it's bound to be interesting.
I have no idea how Annika will fare -- there are so many variables, not the least of which is the intense media spotlight on her. But I have found it interesting to watch her in the last few LPGA tournaments because her game has been off from what it usually is. At first I couldn't figure out why she was playing differently, then I realized that she's been spending the past few months practicing exclusively from the back tees (as well as working out intensely to strengthen her upper body). So she'd be hitting long all week, then she'd come into an LPGA tournament on the weekend and be forced to shorten her game. Although this intense regimine hasn't helped her LPGA standing, hopefuly it will pay off this weekend. Regardeless of the outcome, I'm glad she did it. It sends a positive message about undertaking personal challenges to be your best regardless of the opinions of others.
500+ yards isn't really a big deal if you ask me. On one shot or another you cut your swing back anyway. All this means is that she will have a lower approach into the greens than most men will have. As long as she runs her longer shots onto the green she should be ok.
She just got her first birdie. I'm guessing she has a great shot at making the cut if she keeps up her current pace. (3 pars, 1 birdie) B
What I found to be completely hilarious is the comment made by Rome about Sergio trying to give her tips on getting out of a bunker in the practice round. What a jackass. Hey Sergio here's her stats: Shot 59. Have you? Didn't think so. 43 career victories 4 major championship victories No. 1 in Greens in Regulation No. 1 in Scoring Average No. 1 in Rounds Under Par Enters LPGA Hall of Fame this year in her 10th season on Tour. I think she knows how to get up and down from a bunker. Save the lesson and stick to what you are good at, namely... grip.grip.grip.grip.grip.grip.grip.grip.grip.grip.grip.grip.grip.grip.grip.grip.grip.grip.grip.grip.grip.grip.grip.grip.grip.grip.grip.grip.grip.
Just made second birdie in a row... 2 under after 5. Edit... Disregard... I'm a 'tard, you'd think by now I could read a scorecard! -1 after 7.
