Now I'm curious how many former catchers are managers in the MLB. There are three in the AL West alone, and I didn't know Tampa's manager also was one. It does make sense to me to have catchers since they're the only position that understands the pitching, fielding, and batting sides of the game. JV could probably break into the 4000 K club in another 5 years. I have to wonder what his pitching style will have evolved to by that point. Interesting fact from the "Statcast version" of yesterday's ALWC game on ESPN2: JV has the highest vertical rise on a fastball of any starter in the majors. I hope Correa doesn't need a relearning curve when he gets back to the plate as is common with many injured players including him.
Technically the correct statement would be we have not won a season series since coming to the AL. We tied in 2016. Lost every other year. So yea. Time to change that.
