I can't believe I just read all of this, but there some really great posts.

But tinman you've got to realize your going on memory and very little information about what was going on on the locker room after 2/14/95.

I think every Rocket who was there has really bitten their lip about Max out of affection, but just think about it. Maxwell and Mario were pissed off about the Drexler trade and Dream has said he lobbied for it.

As much as we all love Mario now it's easy to forget that that he was b*tching and was allied against essentially against a Dream/Drexler axis without much resume (at the time) to justify his reactions. Mario changed his tune, mind (and soon, his life) pretty quickly. Was it because Clyde won him over, or because he snapped and knew Max's days were numbered?

Kicking Max off the team was the absolute last resort (and it made me sick). I initially was pissed off with Rudy about it, but it seems clear that Dream may have more to do with it than anyone.

I still have love for the guy, but he turned out to be the utimate jerk that quit on a team destined to make the most storied run in NBA history. For that reason alone Max's legacy is that of a loser. A quitter. And an absolute idiot.

I still have a lot of sympathy for him as a person, but as Rockets fan he chose the worst possible time to screw the team. I'd never seen anything like it before.

tinman, your time would be better served boosting Carl Herrera's legacy.

We won a championship because he came to the Rockets
and we won one because left. What an amazing story.

Carl Herrera was a hero too. but not as big as Vernon.

Vernon is still the man and I still listen to Tupac.

We're not gonna be just a part of their game
We're not gonna be just the victims
They're takin' our dreams and they tear them apart
    Til' everyone's the same

I've got no place to go
    I've got nowhere to run
They'd love to watch me fall
They think they know it all

    I'm a nightmare, a disaster
    That's what they always said
    I'm a lost cause, not a hero
But I'll make it on my own
    I'm gonna prove them wrong
    Me against the world

    It's me against the world

We won't let them change how we feel in our hearts
We're not gonna let them control us
We won't let them shove all their thoughts in our heads
And we'll never be like them

I've got no place to go
    I've got nowhere to run
They'd love to watch me fall
They think they know it all

    I'm a nightmare, a disaster
    That's what they always said
    I'm a lost cause, not a hero
But I'll make it on my own
    I'm gonna prove them wrong
    Me against the world

    Me against the world.

    AH.

Now I'm sick of this waiting
so come on and take your shot
You can spit all your insults
but nothing you say's gonna change us
You can sit there and judge me
    Say what you want to
But we'll never let you win

    I'm a nightmare, a disaster
    That's what they've always said
    I'm a lost cause, not a hero
But I'll make it on my own
    Me against the world

    I'm a nightmare, a disaster
    That's what they've always said
    I'm a lost cause, not a hero
But I'll make it on my own
    I'm gonna prove them wrong
    They'll never bring us down
    We'll never fall in line
I'll make it on my own
    Me against the world

i totally agree with this....any team that's benfetting in any way, shape, or form from former rockets who were made into the players that they are during those championship years is indebted to us whether its sam bringing respect to the clipps and leading them into the playoffs or mario elie as an assistant coach with g-state

helping you learn and about a legend.
a man who is imprisoned by injustice like Nelson Mandela.
a man who once freed, will bring freedom for his people.

i also remember during the playoff run for the 1st championship when the rockets came back, against all odds, and beat the suns in the 2nd round in game 7 in houston....towards the end of the game, the rockets were about to put the nail in the coffin with an hakeem dunk and barkley pushed the dream in mid-air and although the shot went in, olajuwon could've been severly injured.

who do you think came to hakeem's defense, shoved barkley, and got ejected protecting the dream?

Someone tell this guy "good job" so we can "put a nail" in this useless thread. I can't, but will someone?

All that needs be said has been said, on either side. What does Barkley pushing Hakeem have to do with this thread? Nevermind, forget I asked, I'm sure Tupac or Nelson Mandela or someone adressed this very issue somewhere in the past, and thus it too can be put to rest.

Vernon quit on the Rockets just like Hakeem. They should both live in infamy.

check out this amazing video by sf3, midway, check out the Max/Hakeem chemistry

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uBrEsNS9zKg&search=hakeem

I blame all of the bittnerness Dream, Vernon, Mario, Rudy T had when they left on Les.

Yeah Rudy was bitter. He went to the Lakers. If the Jazz job was open he would have gone there too.

My job is a teacher to educate you about these heros. I'm not stopping til all you zits are popped.

    1. we as the clutchfans members have corrected an injustice by fixing the entry of a key member of the Houston Rockets on Wikipedia

Wikipedia is viewed by millions of people over the internet. We want to show the world that achievements of the Houston Rockets will never go missing

    2. Tupac and Nelson Mandela were both imprisoned. They both had success after they were released from prison. Vernon hit a game winning jumper for Charlotte they day after he was released from prison for drug possession.

    3. The spirit of the Rockets championship team will never end

I don't know why anyone bothers to argue with tinman. He just rambles incessantly, coutering logic with inane analogies that don't have to do with anything, and posting various pics as if they actually prove something. And the guy is relentless. Nobody has been able to outlast his foolishness. Let it end already.

    Andy,

im sorry that Vernon beat you up back in the day when you were in the stands in Portland.
but you shouldnt have talked trash about his family.

why didn't anyone have your back like all those people in Detroit?

A hero like Vernon, in any year, is still a hero.
