http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/201311200NYK.html Paul George played 48 minutes(including 5 OT minutes) against the worst team in the NBA. And Indiana didn't have the excuse of having their starting SF and backup SG both out of the lineup. Fire Frank Vogel?
A basketball team is like a company. If you don't have the right manager/ceo to manage the team to work well together, you are going to experience loss in revenue. The coach is the one that has to make the decisions, bring the team together and make sure the team is motivated and on track towards the common goal. Yes you can have talent, but without proper management of talent and the surroundings, it can fail. A good coach and make a team play to their potential TOGETHER.
Don't kid yourself. Harden is still injured. No one recovers from that bad of a bruise in a week. He came back, because Lin was out.
lol that's not Mchales fault he had to appease Asik and try to make him happy and see if that could potentially work. And it didn't.
The only criteria to judge a coach is whether his team plays up to and beyond the expectation. With this team, what is your expectation? first round playoffs, second round, western final or final? I am not a big fan, but second round will give McHale an OK status. Let's wait and see at the end of this season.
Without proper rest to let his feet heal properly, expect Harden to play in this state for months if not the rest of the season.
McHale is not a good coach, he is an average one that gets along with his players. He is NOT on par with Adelman, JVG, Rudy T, or many other coaches, he just isn't. DD
Average one would be giving him too much credit? McHale has arguably one of the most talented rosters in the league. Best center and Best SG in the league, Deep team Nothing less than WCF should do.
I think of it this way - if we were in the market for a new coach today (and McHale wasn't our coach and was available) who would be advocating for McHale? My guess no-one.
I won't argue with McHale being average. I will say you are overrating those guys on your list (including Rudy, sorry). They may sound like they know what they are talking about, but they affect the results very little. It is all about the players except for a handful of coaches. Also, lol at Brooks is still better than Lowry. Hopefully a joke.
Asik has only started 8 games this season, which is only 9.75% of the regular season. Of those 8 games, he played 20+ minutes in only 6 of them- for only 7.3% of the regular season. 1. We had injuries coming into tonight. It was made utterly clear that it would be difficult to sit key players- especially when they're playing as well as Harden did. 2. Without Harden, the Jazz would have destroyed us. It was because he played so much that we were even in the game. While we ended up losing, that would be applying hindsight logic.
I'd prefer to evaluate some young, energetic young assistant coaches in decent teams and go from there.
Oh, you're just seeing things... the "dreaded eye-ball test" is pure meaningless nonsense... the numbers clearly show all is well as of now and that you really should pay the coaching little mind... it's all on the players, as stats indicate coaching his little to no influence on the game...
I laugh everytime the thought of McHale being a top 10 coach comes to my mind as OP stated No offense but OP clearly does not understand the game if he thinks McHale is a top 10 coach. He might be trolling us.
Then bench him for playing with no effort on D (if he's fully recovered, i shudder to think this is to Harden we'll get for the rest of the year). Paul George played both ends. Honestly quite tired of your 'one instance' examples 1) Miami lost to Philly therefore all Rockets losses to bad teams are acceptable 2) Ginobolli came off the bench, therefore coming off the bench is no demotion 3) Pops made Parker his whipping boy therefore it makes sense McHale makes Lin one 4) Now Paul George plays 53 min in OT therefore McHale is ok to play Harden 43 min injured/playing with no effort (take your pick).
