People keep saying "more bad than good" or some version of that before last night and I don't get it. He's been pretty consistently a positive plusminus on the court. There are things he leaves on the table with his hands issues, but he pretty consistently does a solid job.
Does he have a chance to be enshrined in the Rockets History of Bad but Scrappy White Guys Hall of Fame one day?
He had a number of solid close outs so he's fine in our switch everything defense. Clark and him need to keep getting minutes. They're heading in the right direction.
Highest plus minus on the team, so he's by definition been more good than bad. That obviously doesn't mean he's our best player, or even our best role player, but he's clearly not a liability which is what a lot of posters would have you think. People made up their minds he's a scrub.
It's the visuals. He fumbles passes and doesn't do anything exciting and until last night wasn't making 3s. So all he did was try to be in the right position and get the occasional put back or lay in. But like you said, hard to be the highest plus minus on team if you are more bad than good. Solid bench big. A hustle player. If he can hit that shot consistently then even better.
Who's in the Rockets' scrappy white guy hall of fame tho? I don't remember the 90s (wasn't born yet), but most of the notable white guys on the Rockets were either Soft 3 point shooters (Bullard, Novak, Anderson), Euro PGs, (Dragic, Prigioni, V-Span), the Immortal Donatas Montejunas and Chandsome. I remember Parsons was a pretty good defender his first few years, and D-Mo always mixed it up down low, but I don't recall a bunch of Matthew Dellavadova/TJ McConnell types wearing red.
I think its a bit of an adjustment period going from capela to him also. guys like harden/cp3 are just so used to the chemistry/timing with capela and where they can throw the ball, where hell catch it, where to be on the floor etc. It's another dynamic with Hart. He isn't as athletic and doesn't move the same way Capela does. The reads aren't the same. It makes him look a bit different bc the rockets will need to play a little differently with him on the floor
In my Crappy but Scrappy white guy HOF (thanks @sushimaster )? Ryan Bowen tops that list. I'd add Chilly Pete to that too. Maybe even David Wood.
+/- is a tough one for an individual player for all kinds of obvious reasons.' He was more bad than good to start the season just by watching. He was constantly getting blown by when switching on the perimeter. He hadn't caught up to the speed of the game mentally so made some dumb decisions (most infamously throwing the ball directly to the Clippers with a few seconds left in the third quarter). He has yet to really play "BIG" in most of his time. It was spastic, in a "nice effort" but not helpful other than as a minute filler way. Yesterday was way better.
speed of the game adjustment understandable for a rookie. that comes with time, well hopefully as it doesn't work out for all young players
It's almost like he was a 20 year old in his first NBA minutes. But no room for that, he's clearly just a crappy white guy.
